Any instrument lights or main beam flash working? You were recently guddling in back of the dash weren't you to re-install your clock ? Possible you disturbed anything leading down to the lights switch?

Hi Gary, thanks, I should've said there are no instrument lights but there is full beam flash when ignition on as normal. Yeh, thought about my messing about and can't see anything damaged/un-plugged. All this work and still can't drive it weeping
Talking of clock, that only works now with key in ignition first click or more, it stops when key out weepingweeping

Did you use the old clock feed for the boost gauge then? If so, that's probably live all the time...

Lights sounds switchey or fusey to me mate - not pulled the radio out for any reason and disturbed the ribbon cable on the back of the light switch?

It's mk2 dash.
Boost gauge doesn't need a feed as it's a hose. I've just took the radio out to have a look at the switch, after seeing it don't fancy messing with it. Ribbon cable looks good.

If you've used the same feed for the clock as was originally wired, something sounds wrong that it now is only live on the key? Also, think my headlight flash (and lights generally - also Mk2) works regardless of ign position. It's something trvial and daft Mac

I recently had this on mine and it was the actual light switch that was the issue. There was a loose connection behind the knob itself.

Edited

Like you i instantly thought fuse or bad earth, but the fault was the knob dial itself.

Here's my link and last post the fix it. http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I had something similar recently too, although my sidelights worked ok. Mine is a MK2 dash too, and there was a track burnt out on the PCB on the control unit in the dash.
Pull the radio out then fish out the black box on the ribbon cables, disconnect it (make a note of which way the ribbons are connected, they have no key pin) then take one end off and sniff inside it, a burnt electrical smell is very noticeable, then inspect the board for damage.
You can easily repair it if it's damaged.

Thanks for help guys, but still no good. Checked everything I can, just have to admit defeat [which I loathe] cancel MOT and take it somewhere.
Wouldn't be so bad but to make matters worse the 'Vito' has packed up too with what seems electrical fault of some sort. I hate electrics.
banghead
relay is ok but it doesn't click when switch operated [I'll have one more go tonight]

Did you have the radio out while doing your most recent dashboard job? Without the comments about the ignition and the clock, the head and sidelights fault sounds like the ribbon cable has been knocked off the back of the light switch, or off the lights control box. In my car when I had that fault, it was mouse-shredding of the ribbon cable.

The clock sounds like it is wired to the wrong live feed. Ditto the headlamp flasher. I will check mine when I get home, but I always think of headlight flashers as being always on, and not wired through the headlight switch.

Sorry mate but I still think its a fuse. I blew one of mine messing with the dash and lost:

Side Lights,
Dipped beam
Clock
Dash lights

Which sounds identical to yours. I known mine is a griff but the circuits are going to be very similar. Its one of the 15a fuses but cant remember which one - I will check tonight. If its not the fuse it must be a cable on that circuit - to much of a coincidence I would think. Will check in when I get home.

Ian [rosey] You are a gem!!!!!!!!!!
As I have taken out all of my dash both upper and lower, look at, inspect, drink beer, head in hands, car up on stands [again] checking earths, more beer etc, on your advice I decided to check all of the fuses again but through a volt meter as I couldn't see one blown by sight and there was the problem, A BLOODY FUSE! It had split/blown or whatever and I couldn't see it. [I know, should've gone to Specsavers] But there you have it, a fuse banghead
Thank you, thank you, thank you.
It goes for all of the helpful people trying to help. THAT for me is what PH is about.

Well get me bounce

Glad your sorted Mac,

Re your clock does it not have an additional earth to the back of it? Mine has a dedicated ground to the bracket holding it to the dash.
