After 12 years of ownership and 12 years of being annoyed by having to insert the ignition key, turn to ‘ignition’ and then fumble for the hard to reach button I finally made life easier for myself

Pick up a fused 12V permanent live feed, I linked into the head unit permanent feed. Run the cable through to the solenoid plate behind the drivers door. There fit a micro switch onto the plate positioned so that the door lock lever strikes the micro switch when the car is unlocked. Pass the 12V live through the normally open contacts with the switched feed passing through into the boot.

Acquire a waterproof momentary push to close switch, a few of quid from eBay.

Locate the push switch somewhere discrete and feed the switched 12V live through the push button contacts and then connect to the boot solenoid live feed.

When the car is locked push button 12V is isolated by the micro switch so the push button cannot operate the boot solenoid. Unlock the car and power is restored through the micro switch allowing the discrete push button to open the boot

Really good job, shame my early model doesn't have the shelf to hide the button frown

Great solution, glad you've thrown the pictures in!

One of the first things I did to my chim was to have the boot release mod installed by Mr Fairclough at HF Solutions, couldn't recommend him and the mod highly enough.

A friend bought a Chimaera where the key fobs would not lock the car, so starting from scratch I wired in a separate door locking system to interrupt the supply to the door locks. I got this of Ebay:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/301101202142?_trksid=p20...

It needed a relays to make it do what was wanted with the door locks, but one of its outputs on the key fob was for a boot release. It did need a second relay to put the 12v pulse onto the rear lock (as the unit provides a switched ground) but for the price this is unit is a bargain, The key fobs are really good quality metal units. At that price you could simply use one for the boot lock in its own right.

Nice solution from BobFather thumbup

Neat, simple & reliable; its how TVR should have done it in the first place.

In fact they did something very similar with the Cerbera, just press the badge wink

Can I ask, where did you source the micro switch, and how did you attach it?

I had the switch in stock however they are readily available

Maplin

eBay The spring striker on this switch just pulls out

There are two fixing holes through the switch. I positioned the switch then used it as a guide to drill two pilot holes then used self tapping screws to attach. You could drill larger holes and attach with small nuts & bolts, access behind the lock plate is easy

Just done this. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.thumbup

I mounted the button bang central over the numberplate.

Easy to do, just a bit of simple electrics and cuddling around with the wire. The button is pretty discrete and definitely looks like it was supposed to be there all along.

Top marks to Bob!

Brilliant Bobfather. clap

For those of us who threw money at the hot start problem/failing immobiliser, with his new Meta system Carl Baker includes a 60 second "get in and key in ignition" delay, rather than the standard 15 seconds, and an extra button on the ignition key (and spare) to remotely release the boot, even if the car is still locked.

When the words head unit are used by someone it is often the case that they mean the radio. There are many places where you can connect to a permanent supply

Just for completeness, this mod is still working flawlessly 2 years and 5k miles later, oh and 2 trips around the NC500 with loads of boot accesses

The ciggy lighter supply is a good one, the connector is accessible just under the dash by the door.

Sorry have to disagree. the cigar lighter will be quite heavily fused and its wiring should again be quite heavy so the fuse won't offer any sensible protection to the lighter gauge wiring of the boot release. Unless you add another fuse at the point you connect your new supply wiring.

Yes I did add an inline fuse.
