Is that a guarantee you will sell it for the agreed valuation ..?

This comes up on car adverts, ebay ,kitsandclassics etc which means absolutely nothing .
Of course not and I never said I would or it was. confused All I said was that I had a value of £20k secured which I think is a fair valuation. I've never said that is a guaranteed sale value or anything. I suspect a dealer would have a car such as mine up at about £25k - doesn't mean he will get that either. I have no illusions that I would struggle to get that in a private sale either so I don't entirely know what you are trying to get at.

All i`m trying to say is a`lot of car owners seem to think they can sell there car for the same as the agreed valuation .
I see it on fleabay alot ,especially classic cars .

Fair enough. The cars are only worth what people are willing to pay. I do think values for good examples are creeping up. Expecting a concourse car for £12k as per the article in the OP is just silly.

Just for the record, I am NOT selling beastie, but this thread has got me thinking about how I'd advertise it if I were.. I think it would go something like this...

Much loved 1998 Chimaera 500 in Highland Pearl
Mint condition
49K miles
15K miles on V8D rebuilt engine
Too many upgrades to list
360bhp
0-60 in under 4 seconds
Top speed somewhere North of 170
Would consider offers in the region of £27K

Now who in their right mind could resist that biggrin

Mods, it's not an ad... the car's not, very definitely not for sale. Its cost me a tad over 30K in just over four years (including purchase price) eek

1. Large numbers (relatively) produced so not got the rareity value of other models
2. Bought by (some) people who don't maintain them/let the chassis rot then have to sell 'cheap'
3. Owners (historically) tend to talk the values down, can be seen quite often on the forum
4. Often seen as the 'cheap' alternative to the Griff, (see also point 1 above) which tends to have a knock on effect on perceived value
5. Used to be lots of 'tatty' ones about(see also point 2 above) going cheap so buyers expect them all to be cheap - you don't see many (if any) 'tatty' Griffs about....
6. Without the 'iconic' status it's seen as a fibre class car built in a shed with a Rover engine (like a lot of kit cars) and a lot of bits off other motors that can be picked up for peanuts from any breakers yard..

I could go on....
I guessed most of those and agree, but this should change with time as they become more collectable / rare. smile
Plus the tatty ones seem to be converted in to racers. smile
