I am having difficulty finding the water temp sensor pick up position / location.
My temp gauge says most of the time 50-60 degrees when driving normally. If I leave it to idle on the drive then after some time maybe 4-5 mins it gets to 70 (indicated) then the fans kick in. (bonnet is open during this time).
Can anyone tell me from the photos below where it might be?

The red circles where the possible choices in my eyes smile
Looking at the "green circle" i've heard that is is normally NOT connected right?

Cheers.

It's the sensor in the bottom right circle of your top picture. It has a single spade connector wire on the end of it. That feeds the dash temp gauge.

There is then another sender, vertical, just underneath the water hose from the swirl pot to the thermostat. That has a more robust looking connector and feeds the ECU coolant temperature.

Only had the car a few weeks and still working on tidying up the engine bay.....

Before you go looking for complicated solutions, I had exactly the same problem on my car. I have a MegaSquirt ECU and with the laptop plugged in get a really accurate coolant temp reading as a comparison. My dash gauge was about 15 degrees cold all the time. I found and removed a 20 ohm resistor that was in the wire about 3 cm away from the spade connector on the wire to the sensor. This has got the dash gauge within a few degrees of the ECU reading. If anything it now reads a little too hot, suggesting that it needs a lower level resistor to get it right rather than nothing at all.

Great Smokey that's just the information I was looking for smilesmile
I will look into the resistor, maybe I have the same issue?

I have also recently bought my car, so also busy tidying the engine bay. Yours already looks very nice, well done smile
