I think i found the problem.
Gudgeon pin had slipped in a worn piston and made this mess.

Reliner that cylinder. Also, the pin has slipped in the rod end which has gone slack. You'll need a new rod. If you're lucky the piston pin bores may be fine.

I realize now its the small end of the conrod thats goosed and let slip.

Time for the next chapter.
New rods and forged pistons, rebore to 96mm.

Open to options and ideas people.

Blimey, that's bad.

Have you got a quick release engine? One minute you're massacring 1/4 mile times and the next staring down the cylinder bore! How do you do it? wink

We laugh at pulling engines, (then cry in our beer/wine, delete as appropriate).

What about rebuilding compression wise for a turbo or would you be better off sticking with your trusted nitrous.

Failing that get your crank offset ground by Chessman`s, rebore to 96mm and see if V8D will sell you some rods n pistons for a 5ltr set up.

I watched some program on top fuel dragsters in the states where they strip down the engines in the pits between runs, I think they have about an hour or 90 minutes. Is that what you're like as well wink

Oooof, but you did a great time on 7 and a quarter cylinders!
It's chez mans or power to re line the cylinder?
I can pick it up and courier it for you if you wish, I got good rates!

90 mins is pushing it.
Taken me 2 days to strip it down and remove from the car. I have had lots of brews and contemplation breaks though. Lots to decide

Update.
The block and crank are with Roland at ACR near Chester.
A new liner to be fitted. A rebore to 96mm. Offset grind the crank to 86.3mm. Chevy rods and a nice set of custom forged pistons.

I am going to fit a new M248 cam and solid lifters too.

Onwards and upwards smile

The last Rover bottom end for a while I hope. Top end might get roller rockers at some point. Maybe something interesting induction wise.

Will be made up if I can run regular 11's NA and push towards 9's on gas. May need a better gearbox. Just had the T5 rebuilt and improved by John Reid again so it should last a while.
