Well, the time has come to take the 450 apart. Was at a crossroads this last couple of weeks.. either sell & get an Esprit Turbo or keep hold & take it apart in the winter. Over the last few days I began to notice a slight knock coming from the engine which yesterday got really bad. So, the decision has been made for me. So after a quite remarkable 151,800 miles it's time to refurb the bugger.

Any links to body bolt positions etc... ?
Chassis coating options... Not keen on Powder Coat, any suggestions on tougher alternatives?

Good Luck, ask on here & you will receive plenty of support.

When you're getting disheartened, post on here for bags of encouragement.

Also check out Undressing Kate on here & (Can't remember what Ged's body off thread is titled) & that should give you an idea of what's involved & hopefully some more encouragement.

And we all love a good body off thread, so keep those pictures coming.

I,l be down your way next weekend if you need a hand with anything.
About the chassis coating ive never seen or heard of anyone galvanising a chassis.
Ive seen plenty of land rovers with it done over the years.

I believe the issue with galvanisation is that the chassis needs lots of holes drilled in it to stop it from warping in the heat or the air in the tubes expanding. Then of course finding someone to do it.

I do remember someone doing it ages ago & I don't think they had issues.

Current thinking seems to be zinc paint followed by epoxy paint. (Can you tell I don't know much about it) See the 2 threads I mentioned earlier

Zinc Metallization. Google it. Basically a thermal spray application of a zinc and aluminium coating applied to steel. The gas flame bonding of the zinc to the grit blasted steel is needed to remove any rust and prepare the steel for proper adhesion of the zinc. This process protects the steel from corrosion for decades longer than paint alone. Many TVR chassis' are now protected this way, including mine. Should out-see me now!

At the end of the day Wyn, technology has progressed massively since TVR's efforts with chassis protection, even the T-cars in most aspects aswell, TVR's chassis prep and finish was shocking !!!, most chassis were flaking as they drove out of the factory !!!

Hi Wyn. I used this link when I did my body off refurb which I finished a month ago. I found it really helpful.
Good luck with yours. It seems a daunting task to begin with, but stick at it and you will get hugh satisfaction in knowing your P&J will be sound and as good as if not better than new.
Take lots of pictures and don't be afraid to ask for advice. We are all here to help and offer encouragement. thumbup

That's a great read. Hats off to the author for taking the time to document all the work.

I'm hopeless at getting the camera out when elbow deep in grime trying to get that last stubborn bolt out. smash

So...... after a good inspection of the chassis, it all looks very solid all told. So I've decided to just get the engine refurbed for now.
Got to the point now where it's all stripped down ready for the lift........

I read V8 Racing's guide which was very helpfull. thumbup
Only 1 question really... The "Clutch ST plate"..... is this the bolt visible through the bell housing access hole?

Cheers thumbup
