You have my sympathies Derek.

I may have a handful of shims in the garage.

Let me know and I'll wizz them off.
Yes please.

How did that post get there again?.

Cheers anyway Peter but i found some extra shims. Owe you beers.... again.

Trying to make progress is sweaty work in this heat. Also doesnt help that i have a bees nest above my back door that i have to pass as i go in and out the garage. Lively buggers today!

Quick question Peter.... rubber gasket on top and a cork one under?

No, I used spacer to head with a smear of Hylomar and then a rubber gasket as normal.

The spacer isnt pefectly flat to my head. Does it clamp down with the rocker cover screwed down?

I thought that they were flat?

Are we talking a mm or 2?

Maybe use an instant gasket like on the sump.

Fit, lightly tighten and then tighten fully the next day.

Talking of sumps.

I just fitted mine and the crank hitting it.
Guess a little adjustment with a special tool is required

Derek this is fantastic mate, to share this build with us on here is a joy to behold and I think I've understood it ?
You want it in by Friday, that adds some stress I suppose but from here that engine is beautiful smile

Mine were far from flat, did a bit [lot] of tweaking in a vice and drilling out of two opposing holes also to both spacers. Then sump gasket sealant to base of spacers to head and Hylomar to rubber gasket as per.

Never thought of fitting the engine upside down for better rocker lubrication.
You, Sir, are a genius silly

A hard day with not a lot to show for it.
Found the nearside exhaust manifold has a split in it so i welded it up using stainless rods (yes they do exist). Problem was that my welding skills left me when i came out of my apprentiship and moved to the drawing office. Also the metal was thin, the rods were old, the set was naff, etc, needless to say it took me ages and isnt pretty so no pic.
Heres a pic of the other end, the thread in the head had its last day so i tapped it and fit a nice cap head.

Onto the rocker covers, also damaged threads in the heads and the fact i could not find longer 1/4 UNC bolts anywhere. So a step up to these bad boys

As well as tapping the heads, had to drill open the rocker covers and spacers.

So i think any thoughts of racing this Sunday let alone getting it in the car and running are slim to none.

Tape on the trumpet base is apt dont ya think

On no it won't !!! This has been a long standing problem of mine, make sure they are perfectly flat
