Aluminium will melt when it gets overly hot. It's a soft metal and it's amazing that it can be used for pistons in the first place. Usually the inlet charge cools them down. Those pistons have been detonated which raises the temps massively. Way beyond the thermal limit. The skirts have been scuffed due to debri dropping down between the skirt and cylinder wall. There would have been a lot of friction going on there.

Would a water injection system like I run help Derek? We have seen nearly 30degree drop in inlet temperature - not sure how it would interact with the NOS?

Could well have tipped it over the det threshold if it was close, all else being equal

I asked Roland at ACR and he said all things being equal his 96mm forged pistons with standard 40 thou gaskets and 28cc heads would normally come to around 10.4:1I used 50 thou MLS gaskets and my heads are about 29cc. The block has been decked a little and I don't have the deck height figures with me at the moment. I will be checking it all again when I get the block reassembled before ordering new MLS gaskets. I want to aim for low 10's if I can.

I won't even mention LS
Oh wait........
Let's see what car is top of the 1/4 mile table. Oh yes it's mine with a little 4.6 rover engine. Maybe in a couple years Alex when I am trying to get top spot back off Neal.Oh wait........
Latest theory is that the ring gaps were too tight. This will be addressed.
