The block is in the daily ready to drop off back at ACR.
Looks like i need 2 replacement pistons and a liner.
I am also getting the flywheel lightened further. Why not.

Bloody hell Derek, that don't look good.

Excuse my ignorance but if they are forged pistons then how have they melted?

Aluminium will melt when it gets overly hot. It's a soft metal and it's amazing that it can be used for pistons in the first place. Usually the inlet charge cools them down. Those pistons have been detonated which raises the temps massively. Way beyond the thermal limit. The skirts have been scuffed due to debri dropping down between the skirt and cylinder wall. There would have been a lot of friction going on there.

Would a water injection system like I run help Derek? We have seen nearly 30degree drop in inlet temperature - not sure how it would interact with the NOS?

Only time Peter dorns a hard hat is when his wife don't get breakfast in bed on a Sunday morning. (no smut please ). More chance of catching him in the workshop or on the blower biglaugh cruising up and down the Kings road isn't unheard of either

Back to the subject matter........ As others have said, I'm sorry that you're in this position Derek after all your hard work, trials & tribulations. Hope things are sorted out soon.

When you built the engine, and assuming the same heads were re-used from the previous motor, did you make any allowance for the hike in CR resulting from the increase in swept volume caused by the bigger bores? Could well have tipped it over the det threshold if it was close, all else being equal

I asked Roland at ACR and he said all things being equal his 96mm forged pistons with standard 40 thou gaskets and 28cc heads would normally come to around 10.4:1

I used 50 thou MLS gaskets and my heads are about 29cc. The block has been decked a little and I don't have the deck height figures with me at the moment. I will be checking it all again when I get the block reassembled before ordering new MLS gaskets. I want to aim for low 10's if I can.

Let's see what car is top of the 1/4 mile table. Oh yes it's mine with a little 4.6 rover engine. Maybe in a couple years Alex when I am trying to get top spot back off Neal.

Latest theory is that the ring gaps were too tight. This will be addressed.
