Have a cracking time tomorrow. Weather looks really good so it should be fast and furious.
Target time is 1:09.23

Post mortem.
Another truely great day.
Started off slowly for me due to QBees bad influence, red wine and the total lack of time scale!
Track conditions were perfect and lap times were tumbling through the day.
I had arranged for a free lesson for all TVR drivers, (thank you MSE) this everyone took up and the results showed on the track.
The last session was epic with the 3 quickest tivs steaming round the track faster then ever.
So a great day ending for me with a 115 mile drive back in two and a quarter hours. Some kind of record as I was towing the tiv with my 85 bhp motorhome!
It's such a shame that other TVR drivers don't explore their cars capabilities, they would not believe how fast a well prepped car can go on track.
Roll on the next event.

Post mortem 2 - the sequel
Day started slowly for me due to Phazed's bad influence, kindly plying me with chilli con carne and red wine in his 85bhp palace-on-wheels after my trying six hour drive towing my car on my new-to-me trailer - well, five hours driving, one hour putting the wheel back on the trailer on the A429.
Once the coffee reduced the hang-over to manageable proportions, and the frostbite from camping receded too, the day got better and better. The other drivers arrived, Phil (Bassfiend29bhp) turned up in his Megane and raised everyone's high spirits even further, and we all trooped off to the briefing. Half an hour later, and two predictable attacks by the man with the microphone on TVR reliability later, and we were out on track. By the way, mate, we all completed the day as pretty well the fastest cars on track without the slightest problem.
The tuition certainly taught me a lot about accelerating out of corners, even though the tyres were already screaming in protest, and it was great fun chasing down the other Chims on track as well as the various Caterfields and BMWs. We even chased down and caught the MacLaren 650S.....stunning car which I forgot to photograph. Typical track day man - as I was loading the car back on the trailer at the end, he came over for a friendly chat.
In a nutshell, the day started out as "duck me, those barriers are bloody close to the corners and there's no run-off if you outbrake yourself" and ended as "wow, this track is awesome and I can actually brake a bit later on the way into Tower and still get the apex while accelerating out".
Trouble free journey home, in four hours, with my trusty Saab Aero petrol estate even managing 26mpg, despite the hi-vis gits closing the A46 around Coventry, and neglecting to sign post a diversion. They seem to have been working on the Tollbar junction improvement since the Boer War.
Thanks to Phil for giving me his Megane locking wheel bolts to fix my trailer. Typical over-40 male PHer - kindness itself......once he had remembered he had them in the car while I was trying the fifth car parts place in Chippenham.

LS power and slicks
Quite right,It was a bit of a tongue in cheek comment, but in a well sorted LS3 with sequential and slix. Oh and hundreds of laps To be fair myself and two other TVR friends a chim a sagaris and my griff went to Combe seven years ago, we had been doing a lot of trackdays . We were there to watch the TVR DETEC race and Britcar. During the Britcar race we timed a few cars near the front doing 1:20's we were lapping in our road cars 1:17's if I remember right. Well Martin in the Chim said we can all do better than that. Next year Martin went Radical racing , Rob P in the Sagaris now hill climbs and sprints in the TVR speed Championship. So watch out Phazed ( Good to read you are putting your talent to use at long last ) I race in all sorts of circuit GT and Classic racing in two TVR Tuscan's ( Both car 77 )Not wishing to rub salt in the wound but for a reference point. I am constantly lapping Combe in my standard and original 1989 4.5 Rover Tuscan on road tyres ,Toyo 888's in 1:12's so my girlfriend tells me. That is quick for a 390bhp car but as I say I have had a lot of practice at getting to that time. All my time will be made on Avon rise into Quarry probably 5+ seconds just there and in the entry to the two chicaines.
Bob...... Blimey it's been ages since I have bumped into you. Hope you are fit and well chap ? Still taking the best Pictures eh, Fantastic. We are at Combe again in GT's on the 31st August might bump into you.
So did you all enjoy your day at Combe and spins, slides or grass cutting moments ? look forward to the vids
We all had a great day thanks, and as far as I know only two of us even left the black stuff - Matt P briefly parking by the pit exit to re-close his Griff bonnet, that had popped open on the way out of Camp Corner, and I admit to using the lawn for 50 yards when I ran out of road and talent coming out of Quarry on the wrong line, having just overtaken a bike engined Caterfield on the way into Avon Rise.
I can see how you could make up so much time there, full attack and knowing exactly which line to take - my first day at Combe, and that braking zone, with all its bumps, was an area I never really felt comfortable in, as the consequences of arriving at Quarry too fast and backwards didn't bear thinking about.

What Bumps................................................... It can get very bent out of shape over those bumps and more than a few moments holding my breath there but it can be very quick indeed especially if you are sliding up the inside of another car. Interestingly I never aim for the traffic lights for that very reason. Extreme care should be taken into quarry , were you told the staggering fact 25% of all motorsport accidents in the UK happen at that corner at the drivers briefing.Gassing Station | Chimaera | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
