4.5 a bit smoother and easier to rev.

The 5 has noticeably more torque low down and probably runs out of puff a bit sooner.

I wonder if the 'running out of puff' would be helped much by this...

That just looks sooooooo sexy! cloud9

Havent a clue how you'd get fresh air piped to it though...biggrin

Mounting the TPS and getting the MAP sensor to work correctly might be an issue too!!!

Totally correct smile

My 450 feels like silk but lacks overall grunt compaired to the 5.0
Both are outstanding engines if treated well.

A properly built 5.0 is going to be better than a 4.6 no question about it, Nigels 5.4 is built to rev up to 8k with its wildcat goodies so its not like they don't rev.

But bang for buck 4.6 everytime wink

i guess you can buy 2x or 3x 4.6L engines for the price of the 5.4 biggrin
but if you can get a 4.6 quite good value for the money.

on the weekend custom twin plenum is ready to go tank

I had removed all thoughts of ITB's from my memory, scrubbed it clean... These for me would be the final icing on my naturally aspirated cake, but I have other more important things to spend the hard earned on, and so expunged all memories of them... like they ceased to exist in my new conservatory focussed world.... until now.... grumpy

Thanks Phil wink

What a glorious curve that is,,, go on chilli boy,I'd be very happy with that and I'd leave well alone,
We had a power test at Snetts because we qualified in the top 5
Looking at the graphs on two different dyno's the Mazda curve is far more erratic than any I've seen on here,,,
Dyno's within 2 bhp of eachother so both charts are very similar,,,,
We seem to have peeks and troffs in both power and torque graphs, controlled ecu and air induction system,,,
So you can't fiddle much!
Air getting in after AFM is my thought,,,
Anyone.
Oh the engine produces top power at the wheels, about 140bhp which is the upper most limit!

What we need to see here for the OP is a standard healthy 4.6 graph
And the same for a 500,,, most people are running standard so that's were the truth lies,,,,
Then the 4.6 might be knocking on the door !! smile

Chilli, forget the conservatory, too hot in Summer, too cold in Winter, you cant use them. Now those ITB`s on the other hand would get plenty of use.

I'm probably going to go to MBE soon so mine won't be fully stock but heads are so it'll be interesting to see what a re built 450 but with original pistons in can produce on Doms rolling road. I'm guessing 285 bhp but I'd hope for more!

This is my 5ltr v my 4.3 so not too dissimilar comparison. The only thing different here is cc. The 5 ltr is running the same heads with standard size valves not TVR big ones and a standard 65mm plenum. Same cam, Both on Emerald.

The 5 ltr is way quicker and have to say smoother too due to being properly balanced.
