This... Listen to jojackson4, it's not worth the paper it's written on in my opinion.

It is nowhere near a professionally created Haynes manual so don't confuse it with such. Haynes manuals get a lot of stick but they're actually created in the Haynes workshop by a professional team of mechanics that have stripped and comprehensively photographed the car.

The so called Bible on the other hand is an extremely amateurish poorly thought out collection of very basic information collated from these pages and stolen from other sources.

Everything you need to know is on these pages and just a quick Google search away, use the Google advanced search feature.

http://www.google.com/advanced_search

Add the "Piston Heads-Gassing-Chimaera" URL so you're only searching this specific source of information.

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/forum.asp?h=0&a...

Then just add your search topic and you'll find what you need to know.

Top tip - click on Google images as scanning through pictures is often a faster way to get to what you're looking for.

Or try this...

"Chimaera what I'm looking for" Site:http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/forum

The only other skill you need with this method is to sift through the bull to find the accurate information you're looking for, once you feel you've understood you can always follow up with a post yourself to fully qualify the answer.

This method is infantately better than the so called Bile, its also completely free.

Save your £40 for that weak and disappointing Bible, then get learning how to use Google advanced search and you'll never look back.

That's all a bit scathing is it not? Obviously you're not a fan, but 'stolen' and 'Bile', a bit over the top I think.

'Bile' was a typo of Bible, the rest is 100% fact.

Don't waste your money!

To be fair I'm pretty sure the first publication date for Steve Heath's 'Bible' predates these forum pages.

Also if you're making accusations of information theft best make sure your spell checker is on.

I assume you're referring to the the photocopied tat that is currently being flogged on ebay to unsuspecting folk and not the Steve Heath book 'The TVR Griffith and Chimaera'. If not you're talking rubbish.

As pointed out the first edition of the Steve Heath book pre-dates this website by a year and contains much information that has been repeated here many times. Yes it's a bit general in many things and even wrong in a few places but it's a great introduction to those starting out with a TVR or just wanting a place to start, being basic doesn't make it crap.

You can buy new copies for less than dog-eared 2nd hand copies on ebay from Steve heath's own site:

The source of information for the 'tat' you refer to is based on Peter Beech's Workshop Notes, which were consolidated from posts on various forums at that time and were free to all. They predate Steve Heath's Bible and therefore PH by many a year. If you take the time to read them most of the posts originate from Steve anyway, logically then he used some of the ensuing threads as reference material for his Bible. Peter did a lot to get a Griffith and Chimaera information source out there and fell foul of the factory on more than one occasion, his maxim was 'any information is better than none at all'. However any one falling for the ebay ruse needs to ask for their money back.

Assuming you are talking about "The TVR Griffith and Chimera" 2nd edition, I have a copy that is in mint condition and I'll match the £25 + P&P. Let me know if interested.

______________

I think that's a bit over the top. If you are coming into Grif/Chim ownership from scratch then I think it serves as a very good intro into the subject. The publication was an early (and unique attempt) to be a reasonable single knowledge reference but never claimed to be a Haynes equivalent. Absolutely agree it doesn't contain step by step/definitive/comprehensive references typified by Haynes; however we don't have a Haynes option and this is the best we have.

Poor choice of words, by 'tat' I meant the fact that it was being sold for around £40 on ebay rather than the content. Annoying when, as you correctly state, it is/was free to all.

Regardless of the source Steve Heaths book has been well regarded as a great reference and starting point for Griffith and Chimaera ownership for a good number of years

It is still available at no cost here:

http://www.geocities.ws/pbtn6/wsncont.htm

If nothing else, Steve Heath's Bible does contains the one and only Griffith circuit diagram for the electrics, albeit barely legible. Derek Smith tried to get a more detailed 'Haynes' type workshop manual going, but it seems to have fizzled out.

FWIW I've just read through some of Peter Beech's stuff, and there are many topics posted and discussed then that are the very same as those posted today! For instance, the topic 'More Like a Trabant' and Morgans posted July '96 is currently a topic of interest here:

Same old, same old!

Perhaps ConG will be back to clarify what he's talking about?

Thankyou for the offers I will pass the details on. The comments about the bible are maybe valid on certain levels but my work mate is 26 years old and looking for all the info he can get as hes really excited about the process of buying one and I for one wish to help him as much as I can. There arent that many 26 year olds buying these cars so lets not put him off. I for one found the info in the bible interesting but we all have our different levels of knowledge, experience and understanding.

The so called bible is a complete waste of money, should be retitled the bleeding obvious , nothing of real interest , if you expecting the Haines manual forget it. You will get more benefit reading on the web !!!!
