another 1000 answers coming.......

.....so I will start with

215/45 17 front and 235/45 17 rear
or
225/45 17 front and 245/45 17 rear

I have also run 215/40 17 front and 215/45 17 rear

and then there's 215/45 17 front and 235/40 18 rear if you have Silverstone SP12s

I need some track tyres and have some road tyres I don't need - do you want to consider a swap? I will probably end up paying you some money as well.
I will email you so we can talk off forum.

I'm using 205/40/17 on the fronts and 215/45/17 on the rears - Falken 452

Excellent all round tyre.

You can fit 255 45 17 on the rear and 225 40 17 on the front if you want wide rubber (-:

Not arguing with Jes, but every Chim is different and not all can fit 255, or even 245, under the rear arches.
IF you deide to go for wider tyres, get the tyre place to fit one and make sure it doesn't catch, if they are willing.

On a Sunday road car, anything wider than 225 or 235 is OTT IMHO.

Qbee You are right for the road it makes no difference and whether you can fit them in the arches all depends on the wheel offset. You can actually get up to 335 rears on a griff but that may be a bit OTT for the road

245/45/17 can catch the outriggers ,to be safe go for 245/40/17 which are only 3mm smaller in diameter next to the standard 225/50/16

Track day tyres come a lot wider.

255/40/17 are very close and the other side caught ,they are also to wide for 8j wheel width .
