Yeh but its only about 250hp stock and if you think its cheap to get more you are much mistaken short of turbo charging TB's cams etc but in engineering terms it makes the RV8 look like a plant cement mixer engine its a gem
Back in 1995 I owned a Lexus LS400, 4 litre V8. What a powerplant! I had 145 mph out of it no trouble (max was quoted as 151), and still as smooth as you like, and it pulled so smoothly in all gears while getting there. My favourite party trick to impress friends was to balance a pound coin on its edge on top of the plenum, start the car, and rev the engine from idle to rev limiter and back a few times, then switch off.
Head back under bonnet, pound coin still where i left it, on its edge.
Try that with the RV8.....I doubt you could even get the coin to stand on edge beyond start up.

Lexus 4.3 had 278 bhp. It shifted a car weighing 1,750 Kgs to sixty in 6.3 secs.
Has one ever broken down?
was that the Lexus sorer ? think it was twin turbo auto box but to be honest I was not that impressed with the power output compared with my Z3M !! BUT it was a hefty motor ?Has one ever broken down?

My LS400 did have a few issues, fixed under a used car warranty (about £6000 worth over three years at Lexus dealer rates), but none of them were engine problems. The worst was a silly niggle - it took them 5 months to discover that the replacement for the main ECU, which they had changed under warranty, was itself temperature sensitive. Under 5 degrees outside air temperature and it wouldn't select reverse gear. A real boon on a cold morning, late for work and parked facing a wall and downhill!!

1 water pump (quite common with mileage) is all I have ever done on one apart from servicing and the odd cam-belt back in the day LS400 its what it is because it what the Japanese do best you cant sell me Japanese engineering I was sold that from 87 on when I worked at an Honda dealer even just their castings are superb Has one ever broken down?

That Ford V8 Chim is epic. Assuming the new TVR use Ford V8 Cosworth engines I wonder if there will be more older TVRs which go down the same route with Ford as opposed to Chevy LS.
Many pre eighties TVR`s are fitted with small block Ford engines because of its size and abundance of upgrade parts ,they have got rid of Triumph straight 6 and ford V6.Edited by SILICONEKID345HP on Monday 6th July 14:54

So bleedin' quiet and smooth and I hadn't looked at the rev counter.

Before I bought my Chim I bid for this car on eBay having an SD1 already at that time. It was the engine that drew me to it. Plenty of discussion in the SD1 club - majority liked it.

Stop dissing the old RV8 you lot ! Nothing wrong with it if you look after it properly. I always wanted something I could tinker with and give me a feeling of classic British motoring, albeit with a few improvements and the Chimaera & RV8 give me the ideal combination. I greatly admire those who experiment, innovate & develop but I believe the RV8 is a fundamental, integral part of the whole 80's & 90's TVR feel & experience, and a big part of what I love about these cars.
All IMVHO of course & just my two tuppence worth !!
