Stop dissing the old RV8 you lot ! Nothing wrong with it if you look after it properly. I always wanted something I could tinker with and give me a feeling of classic British motoring, albeit with a few improvements and the Chimaera & RV8 give me the ideal combination. I greatly admire those who experiment, innovate & develop but I believe the RV8 is a fundamental, integral part of the whole 80's & 90's TVR feel & experience, and a big part of what I love about these cars.

All IMVHO of course & just my two tuppence worth !!
I am fond of the RV8 too
and here nerd

I was just wondering what else would fit without much cosmetic modification?

We all know the Chevrolet v8 will fit, and you could easily get a four pot in maybe even a straight six.

But what else is knocking around?

Jaguar? BMW?

The tiny motorbike v8 thing?
Modern DOHC units can be somewhat tricky to get in.

The SOHC 5L M113 Mercedes engine is a very good option. Dirt cheap, robust, 350+bhp and I believe shorter than an RV8. A very compact little engine.

This is true. But the others, including the RV8 are American.

And so is any Bosch component.....batteries, injectors etc.
The alternator (Landrover original) is Magnetti Marelli, that well known ice cream firm from Glasgow (hush, they can't be Italian, can they?)

And from where do you imagine the engine and gearbox of a Rover V8 originate? Certainly not British, are they? Buick and Ford Mustang, IIRC.....

Non of the overhead cam v8 stuff will fit without chassis mods

The Ford 302 V8 is smaller than the Rv8 and will bolt right up to the T5 box you already have and will make more power

Volvo T6 is a good lump that would fit inline 6 twin turbo in stock form and a map they make 400 ish

I'm guessing there's a fair weight penalty with the 302 though.

wow, 400hp from that 302 NA sounds very good.

those 302 engines that can be used, are those only old types?
from when to when can you get those type engines?

also thinking, such set (heads etc) can also be used in the 5000M versions and or griffiths with 302 engines.
how expensive would such be all in all, guess some tuning etc will also be part of such.

looks like its been a long time outside?
also most openings not closed, so...air/moist play time-rust?

but, maybe cheap as a basis to build up.

I prefer burgers to bratwurst & pasta to sauerkraut.
A lot of Bosch stuff isn't made in Germany nowadays in any case.
My power steering reservoir isn't German.................and I'm just about to open my 4th can of English cider of the evening !
