Ecu upgrade, what to expect ?

Mine still burbles and I am told it is quite loud. I live at number 1 and the builders are working on number 15. When I start up they all come out.
And I have amended the last line for you.

That's a low down attempt to get me to man up,,, nah
I'll just be a bit gay with my N/A little 300hp
The point about a strong engine is so true,,,
I don't want to blow the car up within a couple of years,
I barely use the power the car possesses on the roads anyway so FI seems silly for just a few track days a year!
I'm not into drag races with boy racers,,,,, if I had FI I'd be racing everything
As I said earlier with the new Ecu I can go to FI in the future
Dom has a rather large list of things to do as it is!

I considered doing the conversion myself (tight git) but it isn't that simple. Cutting the chassis rail and making a new part would have meant using an engineering place for me. The wiring and other fittings probably not too bad. Cutting large holes in the inner wings might put some off the DIY route.
So heart ruled head and I let Dom do it. Chinese parts? Eeek!!! Don't let Dom hear you say that.....
Word of caution. If you do decide to go this way, you really have to ensure the engine is in a good state as any part worn bearings are going to surrender in short time. And no wear on the cam either...
Picture 3 shows the replacement part for the chassis rail with the cut out for the diddly little turbo.
So, ClassiChimi, what are you waiting for?
Thanks Iain.So heart ruled head and I let Dom do it. Chinese parts? Eeek!!! Don't let Dom hear you say that.....

So, was it worth it?

...and what have you done with regards to the cat requirement for MOT..?
Thanks,
Dom
The lambda sensors have been moved lower down - can't see them in the pics. Turbos normally run a lot cleaner so hopefully there wont be a problem come MOT time as the main cat is still present. As it has not been fully mapped, I haven't taken it to the MOT place to see what the readings are. Thanks,
Dom
Incidentally the MOT would not fail if a cat was missing so long as the emissions passed. So fingers crossed.

That's a very nice job,
I like the N/A induction roar,,, I'm worried I wouldn't like the sound of the car anymore,,
I'm standing firm on this one,, I can always go back to it so I'm happy with what I'm doing to my car
Stand firm Alun, I am with you on FI vs NA. I have been in some really quick FI cars and been very impressed but for me a TVR Chim / Griff is all about an NA engine, I love the induction and exhaust note you get with NA. If I was to upgrade it would be for the ITB setup Ian Rose has on his Griff which I understand from Dom will work with the MBE ECU.I like the N/A induction roar,,, I'm worried I wouldn't like the sound of the car anymore,,

I've been busy with a new bike so a bit slow to reply,,,,
There's now't wrong with a turbo or charger or Nos but it does smooth the engine note somewhat,
It's a bit like motorbikes I've been looking at,, brilliant, fast, so after a few years of looking I go and buy a slow( by modern standards) Triumph Thruxton,,,
It's not just about speed,,,,,
Saying that my new bike has been re jetted and dyno'd and Pee Shooter exhausts etcetc,
As this thread has gone miles off topic and I'm the worst culptet sometimes,,,
And my Ecu installation will be sometime before I can update progress
Here's a sneak at the bike,,, I'm really into retro but with a bit of anger thrown in
Lynx Avon Fairing
Norman Hyde, everything else
19 tooth front sprocket
Never seen rain. ?
It sounds like a Norton and rather loud, pops and bangs to die for

Naff iPhone pics hopefully this shows the engine a bit better,,,,
I hasten to add,,,, I've been allover the bike since these pics were taken, if it looks clean now,,,,
Every mm and bolt had been cleaned since
Errr including rubbing down those cylinder head fins,
Enough already...

Very, very nice Alun. If you ever make it over to mine one day I'll take you round to my neighbour's garage, 2 Triumphs & a Norton, all 1960's, all nut & bolt restored by him with genuine parts, even down to new old stock light bulbs !
Any news on progress with your Chim ? Mine goes in on Monday.

Richard, I've looked at loads of old stuff but can't be arsed with all the fiddling but it was a Norton Commando that inspired my love of bikes as a kid,,, early 70's and a bloke re built one near me,,
Matt, it was built in 2009,,,, not quite the year I was born but then I do have the mental age of a 6 year old
As some people might know,, I'm into polishing stuff,,,it's sort of a hobby,,
I have a few mates who all raced bikes as kids and were all getting back on bikes!!!!
I've said no for about 20 years but this bike is a bit special, I don't need to be on a super fast bike,
I don't like riding in the rain either so this is just the thing for sunny rides and cups of tea at cafe's.
It's a life style thing maybe,,
I like the lazy handling etc, it's a 900cc so not exactly slow,,
It reminds me of all the old race bikes I grew up around,
It'll do
Morning Peter,,, it's hard to find a damn mark on it! Increasable, I've had the seat and panels off it, spotless.
It's never been wet as far as I can tell,,
It's so loud too,,, it's got the perfect sound track,
I've been looking at these Thruxton's for a few years and they don't quite do it for me,,,
But this has been done to a very high standard and totally looked and goes the part,
I've got a mad crash hat too retro leather Jacket and boots that look more like work boots
I've gone full circle and back to my roots.
Anyway ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
The ecu installation
That's going to be weeks away, I never booked mine in, just dropped it off so it will be done when they have time.
Long list of things for them to do so Richard yours will probably be done before Mine.

The good thing about these later bikes is that it gives you the looks and nostalgia but with reliability as well.
I looked at a1960 Triumph 5TA trials bike this week.
Lovely engine, recently rebuilt but the rest was rubbish. Awful brakes, suspension and as heavy as a heifer!
Couple that with the gearchange on the other side and it was definitely a big no.
After years of riding jap and more modern European bikesit it it would be very hard to get used to the gearchange back on the British side.
Ah well, I will have a look for something more modern but classic.
Enjoying the riding and keep it upright big

I look at this bike and can't help but think Tvr could have built great cars
This is everything old with everything important modern, feels brand new,5800 miles on the clock
I've not got a licence yet but had a spin around our private lane
It felt proper old school, but the brakes nearly threw me over the bars,,, it evokes the bikes I learnt to ride,
It does feel heavy but I kinda like that too.
I've just checked,,, it's also got a 43 toothed rear cog, standard 41 so accelerates faster.
I think it feels quick but then I hav'nt ridden anything proper fast for years.
I've already looked at big bore kits, bigger carbs, that can wait awhile, so I've got a stainless steel oil cooler mesh and a engine stone and Alley chain guard coming
A bike like this can go for years without much effort.
If I had my time again with Tvr I would have done this,,, buy one that someone else has lavished and pained over,,,
This bike I can just get on and go,,, awesome.
Ace helmet, iconic British engine, it's all going on
It's about time I did the jungle behind the bike.

I've got my CBT on Tuesday?
I've practiced the theory test and failed twice! Maybe this isn't such a good idea
The thing is I have piles of drum kits that I've also collected over the years lying about doing nothing,,,
I can't quite give the drums up so I have a cool Roland electric kit I can bash about on but al my very nice drums are going up for sale,,, sad to loose them but it's time!
Drums and machines are one and the same thing, mechanical, need fettling and fine tuning to get the best out of them and they all make very loud noises.
