Good luck with the MBE and other works, I hope the bill it not too eye watering.

Out of interest what have you done to the car so far to make it more 'sorted'.
Hi Mat, maybe a set of hi spec front brakes, some better shocks( havnt decided which ones) yet

When I say sorted I meant as in reliable,, I still need to re build the rear end, ( tidy up) wishbones etc

Lots of jobs on my list are niggles that I want to iron out,,

New riggers kinda sorts the car a little wink

Richard,,,,, just the man who built your induction system again ,,, laugh
Thanks man, from you that means something, cheers indeed. smile

Cheers Richard, no comparison,,, mine 275,,, yours 420+

Just as you have a few gremlins to look at
I to have a few other things to get done,,,
Some of it because I'm lazy
Some of it because I know it will get lost Within the cost of a few other things,,,
Dom is sound,
I'll be paying my way that's a fact but whilst it's all apart it just sort of adds up!
I'll keep you informed,,, Dom has a few ecu changes in there already,,, I've said work around it,,,
Mine will be weeks away yet.

Yes Graham I will,,, like most things on here it's valuable information for others to study and help them make choices,,,,
For me this is also a new beginning,,, mapping,,,,, mmm idea

I feel like the lad that's seen the Christmas present in the cupboard,,,, and it's a bike smile ,,,,,, yet Christmas is still weeks away....
But just think about it,,,,, all nice and new coil packs and wiring and injectors and Plenom and new starter cable and on and on and on,,, wink

If this all works out I'll have a car that can do years of summer fun with only general maintenance and I can forget ignition woes.
Nothing's forever but decent control of fuel and spark coupled with new wiring,,,,, it should work for a very long time!

I'll ask Dom to take loads of pictures as he goes,,,

Quick question
So you map the car,,,, fine,,, perfect.
The engines state of tune will change slightly over time,,,
Will I need to re map regularly or can you theoretically go years without a re map,,,
Not everyone considering an ecu change will want expensive rolling road sessions!

Edited to add, I'm thinking about
Cold start, hot start and idle !

I suppose that logic says if the mapping is good and nothing else changes then those issues are masked!

I'll be leaving well alone, smile
Simon a silver one,,,, I've always liked silver ones, wink
There's nothing to not like about a decent ecu upgrade when coupled with the coil packs etc,,, engine wiring loom another big plus,,,, I'm busting at the seams waiting,,, waiting,,, I have to leave Dom to do his thing, it's going to be well worth it in the longer run. smile

Yes will be at Castle Combe, looking forward to it and will be good to catch up smile

I think the best thing about TVR ownership is some of the awesome people I have met, people who are always up for a chat, willing to help out, loan things, offer advise all without expecting anything back in return, very unlike the real world.

I second that Mat.

I'd have cracked within months of ownership if I had' nt found Pistonheads and all you amazing chaps who have slowly educated me, it's a joy to own a Tvr simply for what I've learned and the great honesty we all share about these great cars. smile

It's also a disaster of a place for my finances biglaugh I get caught up in all the ideas and upgrades and blow me has it made me get my car in order. yes

"I'm so dizzy my head is spinning" spin
Just some good news regarding my out riggers,,,,
There good. WOW,,,,

So that allows more room for MODS,,,, even more head spinning smile

I'm not going far on the engine,,, I need better than 15 mpg. It's my choice as I enjoy my car on many levels.

Brakes, hubs,,, maybe?

Shocks at some point, Tyres

I might even treat myself to a stereo, hehe
I'll go retro on the stereo,,, it's not like I can hear it anyway smile

It's not often you have the chance to do what I'm doing,,,finance is always an issue for all of us in life,,

When Alls said and done I'd either do it over a few years or all at once then enjoy the car, whilst I recover my Health hehe and bank balance smile

I will be receiving photos of the Ecu install so I'll post them up as I get them. smile

That's the second time you've suckered me into checking that out....smile

Don't man,,,, please man,,,, I implore you to stop feeding my habit. hehe

Yeah it looks really good doesn't it Graham.

No that's cheating in my book ,,,,,wait there???? I was at Cadwell yesterday and the most entertaining car was a tiny old yellow Renault 5 with a turbo,,, over the mountain the pops and bangs,, proper quick,,,

Went and had a look at it in the pits,,, tiny engine, tiny turbo
It Went like a wild animal shouting a lot,, so cool.. Mmm, you never know,,,,
Watch this space. !

I've already dismissed the idea, for now!
It's a bargain if your not mechanical to go from 285 bhp to touching 400 bhp or more and modern ecu is a bonus.
I'll be happy chasing the tail with my original car, for now at least,,, it's not exactly slow in It's present guise smile

Yeah with the rolling road available at Doms you can do anything just about!

The whole problem is you can never ever ever have to much power,,,
So where does it stop other than because the cranks fallen off!

Nah, I can rattle my car around and live with it's 90's level of power for awhile longer wink

Every time someone brings this up I have doubts!

Doubts as to whether or not I keep my car "standard" or give in to the urge………………..

I shouldn't really but as winter draws near scratchchin
Yes me too. I`m really struggling with this one.

Just as i put the thoughts to bed, some cruel person sparks them off again.
It is a quandary,
One thing that has just struck me,,,
Without a turbo my gearbox and Dif have just let out a sigh of relief!

I have a stumbling block,,, my kids already think I'm spending their inheritance on the car, yes
They'd be right about that,,,, :hehe
So I'm thinking about years down the line and it's an old sportscar by then,,, original concept car will be worth ten times more than a turbo car,,, smile
I may be wrong but when I'm off this mortal coil then I suppose the kids can then enjoy or sell the car.

I don't need a turbo cos I'm already getting slower ,,,

But you Richard now I think you need to be the one pushing 500 hp wink

Actually your engine is one of the best so you'd ruin it with FI if you ask me.

That's a very nice job,
I like the N/A induction roar,,, I'm worried I wouldn't like the sound of the car anymore,,

I'm standing firm on this one,, I can always go back to it so I'm happy with what I'm doing to my car smile

Mine still burbles and I am told it is quite loud. I live at number 1 and the builders are working on number 15. When I start up they all come out.

And I have amended the last line for you. typelaugh
hehe

That's a low down attempt to get me to man up,,, nah
I'll just be a bit gay with my N/A little 300hp biggrin

The point about a strong engine is so true,,,
I don't want to blow the car up within a couple of years,

I barely use the power the car possesses on the roads anyway so FI seems silly for just a few track days a year!
I'm not into drag races with boy racers,,,,, if I had FI I'd be racing everything yikes

As I said earlier with the new Ecu I can go to FI in the future
Dom has a rather large list of things to do as it is!

I've been busy with a new bike so a bit slow to reply,,,, wink

There's now't wrong with a turbo or charger or Nos but it does smooth the engine note somewhat,

It's a bit like motorbikes I've been looking at,, brilliant, fast, so after a few years of looking I go and buy a slow( by modern standards) Triumph Thruxton,,,

It's not just about speed,,,,,

Saying that my new bike has been re jetted and dyno'd and Pee Shooter exhausts etcetc,

As this thread has gone miles off topic and I'm the worst culptet sometimes,,,
And my Ecu installation will be sometime before I can update progress

Here's a sneak at the bike,,, I'm really into retro but with a bit of anger thrown in

Lynx Avon Fairing
Norman Hyde, everything else
19 tooth front sprocket
Never seen rain. ?

It sounds like a Norton and rather loud, pops and bangs to die for smile
