Hi!
IMHO - You would be best popping down to the Bucks TVRCC meet which is held at the beginning of
every month and speak with those who come to see if they would be happy to give you a quick run out
in their cars.
Details of the meet can be found here...

That is the easiest option

Hi mate
I have a 4.2 Cerbera and am in Beaconsfield, so a few mins away from you. I bought my car a couple of years ago for similar money, although I went into with my eyes open and got a good deal.
My car is with Str8six for its 12k service at the moment so when it comes back it will be in even better shape. I can give you a buzz next week when its back and we can arrange a good time for a blast and a chat?
Cant give you much insight into anything other than a Cerbera TVR wise as its my first but could be a good start?
Let me know if you fancy it.

Just noticed that this was posted in the Chim forum, so maybe my Cerb isn't going to be much help by comparison, but I'm still close if you fancy it.
I also know of someone who it thinking of selling a really good one in the coming months but is looking for 12k ish.........
would love to take you up on that offer so i can get a first hand view on the tvr ownership experienceI also know of someone who it thinking of selling a really good one in the coming months but is looking for 12k ish.........
budget wise im quite fixed so cant stretch to the cerb unfortunately (and not sure if it would fit in garage either!)

I think there is some excellent information on Chimaera buying on the TVRCC website and I would suggest joining just to access their database. Also mention has been made of Str8Six and Jason there is well worth while speaking to and giving you some idea of what you can expect to get for your money.
I helped someone buy a 4 litre Chimaera a couple of weeks ago. He paid a few hundred above your stated budget and came away with a lovely car, well cared for, chassis immaculate, engine idled and drove smoothly, interior and exterior very good. The owner was a TVR Car Club member and serial TVR owner who had after many years finally scratched all his TVR itches and retired to a Jaguar XKR, selling the TVR for what he considered it was worth.
What I am saying is there are lovely cars out there, just go and look at loads, take people along with you who know the cars to help you with the decision, and buy from PHers or TVRCC members if at all possible. I bought the first one I saw three years ago, from a dealer, and it has cost me thousands to get it anywhere near right mechanically - and I now need to spend thousands more dealing with the chassis and cosmetics. I wish mine had been like the one I described above.
Also, do have a think about what you want to do with the car before you buy. I knew I wanted a track day car, so I should have bought a car already prepared for that, ie a bigger engined or supercharged version, already prepared for the track. If yours is to be a Sunday car, or even more, a car show car, make sure you buy one like that - it costs far less to buy one that someone else has spent the thousands on than to do that work yourself.....unless of course the project is what you are after!

Great to see that the tvr fraternity is very keen and supportive.
Ive read the book referred to as the bible it has some great pointers. I'm hoping to see a couple of local tvr owners too.
I'm going to join the tvr club too it looks like a great bunch of folks and some great information on their website
The car will be used for casual weekend miles fair weather only!
Is itnworth holding out for a 1996 or later car and is their an assumed premium? I'm also not sure about the hc derivative other than a bit more horsepower?

Really good Intel as I wasn't sure whether my budget was realistic. I desperately need to get in one to confirm that it grabs me the way my old Porsche did. I'm sure it will as there's always been good crossover between the two manufacturers and their devoteesWhat I am saying is there are lovely cars out there, just go and look at loads, take people along with you who know the cars to help you with the decision, and buy from PHers or TVRCC members if at all possible. Definitely doable within your budget. I picked this one up about a month ago for slightly under £7500. Its got a years ticket, 46k miles and a couple of nice modifications from the previous owner like ali rad and hard fuel lines. It does need a new hood and the paintwork isnt immaculate but.....its a TVR and i love it!!!!
