97' 450..failed MOT on handbrake hardly working on the nearside.

Having freed up the adjuster, played with a few different clicks on the handbrake.

but still able to turn the rear nearside wheel when handbrake is applied .

Have new pads and discs all round

Any suggestions appreciated

Have you made sure that the handbrake actuator at the caliper isn't seized?

It's possible that when you pull on the handbrake lever, you are tightening the cable, applying the handbrake for the right hand wheel but doing nothing to the left hand.
It could be a simple as lubricating the actuator.

The plastic adjuster may feel ok and screw up the cable but it can sometimes be pulled loose again when you use the handbrake, as if the threads are worn. Quite hard to tell unless you watch it while someone operates the handbrake.

Find a decent MOT tester! Surprisingly mine is nearly as good as the footbrake!!

I had a similar problem with mine. When removed from the car and moving the actuator full stroke the piston only moved during the last 30% of the stroke so not enough to fully push the pad onto the disc. it was supposed to have been a refurbished unit which I purchased early on in the rebuild but that was 3 years! before getting the car on the road (to the MoT station), so no chance of returning under warranty. I purchased another caliper and all was then ok.

Given you knew that one wheel was an issue Did they test it on the rollers? Tvrs with lsd's should be tested with the old fashioned accelerometer or risk damage . At the point of test the computer should advise the car has an lsd
