Wow, just looked at the Mazdas!

Jap crap but wow, great performance and what a Q car!
The 3 MPS looks a good buy.
Yes and also maybe the 6 MPS?

I had a ride around Mallory Park in an RX8......couldn't believe the speed he took Gerrards at (I had just been round there in my Chim, so knew what I was feeling - my foot was on the passenger side brake pedal), and it was utterly standard. Comfortable seats too.
I loved my RX-8 ... more fun than having a skeleton key and a pocketful of pardons at a ladies prison.

One of those cars that you felt cried out for more power but realistically you know that adding more power would kill the reason why it was so bloody good.

I let a slightly unhinged ex-work-colleague loose in mine and he f*cked up badly in it entering a right hander and it handled so bloody well it saved his ass (and mine as I was in the passenger seat) from making a very big mess of some very hard trees ...

330 iX manual? They really stick to the road and respond well to an SC if you lack power smile

Always liked these myself, some bargains out there if you are willing to take on an engine overhaul.

Something like the beefed up Passat R36

Not sure how they drive but it gives a nice respectable business image and must be reasonable performance with the V6 engine ?

Also being VW there shouldn't be any problem with parts or aftermarket upgrades.

By the way, Saab parts are readily available. Many are GM (Vauxhall etc) anyway.
And there's a good online support network on UKSaabs.co.uk

I know a surveyor who fell in love with one at an Audi dealership, it was about 3 years old.

Fuel consumption, appalling
Over the next 2 years, a set of tyres, brake discs and pads, various engine management problems necessitating a new inlet manifold and a few other items.
Long story short he was over £10K poorer over the two years.

Another vote here for Audi, either S4 or S6 Avant(V8) like my tow truck smile
that way whatever the weather or reliability you have a vehicle to go around the track when you turn up.
I would avoid the RS version tho...A. they are bloody expensive of service parts (brakes etc) and B. I don't think you can fit a towing hitch cos of the rear diffuser/bumper arrangement? (stand to be corrected on that)

Something like this would be my choice especially after owning 3 of them so maybe a bit biased. The manual for me. M3 to save you looking up the link.

Left field, what about an Alfa? 159 sportwagon 2.4 JTD. 200hp standard and 250 with relatively cheap map. Those interiors are so cool too. licklick That's where my money would go.
have a 147 from new 53 plate, and can honestly say without a shadow of doubt it is the best car we have ever had

Funny enough I was just thinking, "you fool, you need an oil burner because of cough business use, cough receipts etc".

That narrows it down and reduces the excitement a tad but……… I like the sound of the Alpha, 'specially the 4wd!

Unbelievably only one of these around on Autotrader or the bay.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Alfa-Romeo-159-Sportwago...

Right, in an ideal world, which is not what we live in……

Spec would be;

Golf or slightly bigger
Sporty pretentions
Diesel
Twin turbo, (no lag)
At least front wheel drive
Preferably AWD
Fast, 0-60mph in less then 8 seconds at the very most!
Frugal
Plenty of head and legroom for 6'-3"
Hatch or avant styling for practability
Up to 8K

Suggestions?

How about this? Audi S4 Quattro Avant 4.2 LPG.....so better fuel economy than the petrol car and phenomenal grunt. 344 bhp and 0-60 in 5.8, with 4wd grip.

Stop i!

Actually tempting but in the real world tank size is puny, I'd fill up once a day and I've got the T shirt on that!

Thanks for looking though.

you could always get a second tank fitted - it will give Dave (Chimpo) a project hehe

It could make a pretty good wet track day car, on a set of Uniroyal Rainmaster 3s
