Well the old girl has let me down. I'm stuck in a multi storey with what I assume to be an immobiliser issue.

Immobiliser clicks when disengaged, the fuel pump activates, but whether key is turned, nothing happens. frown

Try rocking the car in gear, then try again, with the car not in gear obviously!

disconnect/reconnect battery if possible, hit the underside of the dash to shake a stuck relay...

Don't think it's immobiliser if fuel pump engages....

Can you push to the down ramp (multi storey...) and bump start (2nd gear and foot over the brake ready....)

Not sure what the issue is, but it doesn't seem to be the immobiliser. Had a mechanic out and we got it started with a bump start......now I'm at the motorway services refueling and hoping I can get it started again! 😅

It sounds like the immobiliser.

There are two circuits that are switched separately. The fuel pump and the starter motor.

The starter motor circuit is the one that tends to fail

Are the two circuits on separate relays ? and if so can the starter motor one simply be switched when the dash top is removed ? Reason I ask is that I'm going to replace the dash this winter and might as well replace relays if I have ready access.

Many Thanks

The relays are internal to the immobiliser unit and are not easily changed as they are potted, whilst it's not impossible to do, it is a messy and involved process and usually a lot easier just to have the unit replaced by the usual suspects :- HF Solutions, Abacus Alarms or Carl Baker.

Late in the day I know. I had a similar problem with my Chim. The fuel pump would start but the engine would not turn over. I discovered (yeah, I got frustrated) that slapping the underside of the passenger dash when holding the key in the start position would start the car!

The problem was diagnosed as a dying starter immobiliser relay and when Carl Baker replaced the immobiliser the problem went away and has not returned.

My immobiliser was in the passenger dash and my slapping jogged the relay into working.

Had same problem. One of the pins on the circuit to the immobiliser plug under the dash cover wasn't connecting properly.

I wonder how many alarms have been replaced due to these pins working loose.

Once located a 10 second repair and free.
