What brought on the FIA roll cage decision? Those things aren't cheap.....
Now I am running mid 10's I need to comply with rules and regs in certain drag race classes. Also seems a good idea after my 124 mph spin at York earlier this year. Could have been much much worse.

You can never be too safe. Fire proof overalls etc, I assume you already have. I am giving them serious consideration for trackdaying.
I have to have the full kit now. Race suit, boots, gloves, helmet, arm restraints if roof is off, and a neck brace although I am going to look into a new helmet and HANS device.

The full cage, 6 point harness and the seat bolted to chassis bars and not just the shell floor complete the safety package. I have a fire extinguisher to hand but may have to consider a proper system in the engine bay.

I received an initial but rather lengthy inspection report from ACR today on my engine.
Makes for interesting reading particularly regarding the cylinder heads that were very recently refurbished by a highly recommended specialist. 1 head is 16 thou taller than the other and the face runs off datum.
Its a worry that it seems no one can do a job as promised these days and its going to cost me.... again!

The good news is that Roland will sort and rebuild the bottom end free of labour charge.
The pistons are going to get a little more relief at the cutouts to help lower the CR.

The heads require a lot of work to make perfect and the chambers will be CNCd to match and gain volume. The ports require work to make perfect also.
The aim is to get the CR to low 10's.
New valve caps have been recommended along with better pushrods.
The cam will be machined and a retaining plate fitted.
Roland recommends highly expensive lifters that hold better oil pressure but i think that the comp cams ones i have already bedded to the cam should be fine.

Roland also wants to tidy up the porting in my inlet and trumpet base but i need to know how the bill is racking up before i decide.

Measurements can be confirmed by somebody else if need be. Tickling out the valve cut outs will make bugger all difference to the compression. Either skim the block (improve squish as well) or ask the head refurbisher if he'll skim the heads. He may not have been asked to do this previously but could do it now. All you need to do is have a chat. Whatever you do, don't start bandying about a rival companies opinions as you'll soon get his back up, lol.
coffee

I shouldnt go on here after wine.

Just spoke to the guy that did the heads. A genuine nice guy and was nothing but upset about Rolands findings. He said he has all the respect for Roland and wont question it.
We think the heads had a previous issue that was overlooked and only work as instructed on the refurb was carried out.
He made an offer of help in the future.

Roland will be putting things right now and then i should see the numbers that were obviously lacking on the last 2 build attempts.
