Radiator Fan Switch
Discussion
I have a 1998 Chim 4ltr. The radiator fan switch is mounted in the rad. It has 3 terminals and only 2 connected. Removing the switch it has no markings apart from on the bottom, the bit in the water. A121 84 79 88 83, so I am assuming that it has 2 switches, closing at 84 deg, opening at 79 and the second closing at 88 and opening at 83, not had chance to try this out yet. Is that the standard switch on Chimaeras ??
It sounds to me like it's a dual stage switch. With one stage activating at 84' then the other at 88' as the temperature rises, then the second one (88' on) de-activating at 83' and the the first one de-activating at 79' as the temperature falls. This would work with a system that has 2 (or more)fans that can be independently controlled. a benefit of this would be to reduce the electrical load spike of switching two fans on at once.
I believe Chimpongas has a staged fan control set up on his Chimaera.
There are several combinations of switches available and it, in my opinion, is down to personal choice/what works best for your cooling system.
My understanding is that the factory fitted a single stage, two terminal, switch.
Hope this helps,
Ged
