Hi Nigel wavey
For me I was merely future proofing [though 554 torque at present] as I 'may' want to up the boost a little at some point [another build?]. Though to be honest it's enough at the moment.
I also worry a lot, like to tinker and an anorak getmecoat
thinking on, I need to chat with you about diff's thumbup

Hey up Mac , I'd like to to see a power run on your build smile I understand why you went down that route , next year we need a get together to compare and test drive !! Diffs just go to gearbox man and get the quaife it's spot on !

Am reading this with a lot of interest! Could be a project for next year.

I had a longer 5th installed along with some strengthening of the T5 box after 5th gear stripped by John @ Readman Racing.

Problem is I have now wound the turbos down (7psi) as I don't want to/can't afford to break it again which kind of defeats the object. Wish I had gone for a box swap now really.

I don't have the paperwork handy at the mo to give you the gear size for 5th, I'll try and look it up next week when I am home. Which reminds me, I have been meaning to log the gps speed against rpm on megasquirt in 5th.

Btw, anyone know where you can get the plastic/nylon inserts for the T5 linkage mechanism as mine just has bolts and washers as I managed to destroy the inserts. I tried a couple of the parts guys a couple of years ago and no dice. I have a Cerb as well and the gear change is night and day thanks to the slop in the Chimaera mech.

Not cheap but the only place I've seen them. The small and large washers are in Related products below.

To be fair to the T5, mine is fine if a little on the heavy side but not bad at all, very precise and accurate.

The T5 in my 4.6 with new nylon thrust washers seemed lighter and even more snickety snick!

I spoke to John Reid yesterday and before we got cut off, he was filling me in with all the upgrades that can be done to the T5, replacement of all things nylon etc with steel/bronze bits and pieces.

I'll call him later.

I'll probably go the same route when its time. I wondered about asking him what he thought of these Counter Gear Stabilizer

I am in the bidding too Alex, will offer you what you paid plus 10%.

Just looked at the calculator based on my FDR of 3.08 and 26" tyres.

300kph (186.411mph) is my aim for the standing mile. Achievable in 5th gear at 5930 rpm

200 mph can be had in 5th gear at 4930 rpm. Good place to aim for max torques i reckon.

85mph cruising speed on the motorway comes at only 2100 rpm.

Don't forget to add hydraulic line + adaptor, shifter, knob, shifter adaptor, clutch, flywheel.

That lot cost the same as the box!

Well it's a shame but after doing all the costings the T56 project is'nt really financially viable for me.

Well, lets put it this way... The costs far out way the benefits cry

Being honest with myself what I'm really looking to achieve here is to say goodbye to the God awful and super heavy Helix clutch and go with something a lit nicer to use.

I also want a nicer shifting box which is why I started the following post...

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=149...

So I've done the sensible thing yet again and just pulled the trigger on an S10 tail housing which along with the Burton quick shift and a lighter clutch is going to me the most cost effective way to improve the one area of the car that lets it down in the aspect of driver enjoyment.

It's a shame really because that extra gear would have been lovely but that's more or less the only benefit to spending around £3,000 more than what I've chosen to do in the end.

That money can be better used by putting it towards the forced induction fund and some other jobs I want done like moving the fuse board, buying SC-Power engine mounts ect ect ect.

Now I've bought that S10 tail housing all I really want to know is if the Burton Quick Shift is worth the extra £120 and should I drop my flywheel weight one more step and fit the 15lbs one from V8 Tuner?

Thanks for everyone's input, a few of you suggested sticking with my T5 right from the start but I still enjoyed thrashing out the T56 idea until I finally accepted it made a heap more sense to follow the advice, stick with and improve what I already have.

Cheers boys, here's to a nice light clutch and a super slick gear shift in 'Ol Gasbag'.

I think the heavy clutch issues are down to the pedal ratios Dave, as my clutch is stupid heavy!

Sat in a Vette with near enough same clutch but the pedal was longer by a good 3 inches and felt like as light as a Civic clutch

So maybe moving the clevis pin up 5mm and a pedal extension 1-2 inch might solve everything

If you don't mind me asking what sort of ballpark price was the rebuild?
