My Water pump is leaking from the weep hole, so will need replacing as soon as I can.

Question is water is the model number from Land Rover rather than the TVR Model number?
Just want to see if IO can shop around, prices seem to be from £30, to over £200.

So far I have checked out,

TVR PARTS
Race Tech ( http://www.racetechdirect.co.uk/e2585-tvr-car-part... ) Not sure if that includes the gasket
Autopost "Land Rover spec" ( http://www.autopost.co.uk/t/range-rover/range-rove... )
Powers Performance ( http://www.powersperformance.co.uk/store/slug/wate... ) again include gasket?
Rimmer Brothers ( http://www.rimmerbros.co.uk/Item--i-STC4378P1 ) Seems the best bet and is that the correct one, looks good to me?

Any more places you can think off, or are they the best so far anyway? been warned off BritParts.

how much coolant is coming out?. I have had a new one fitted from TVR specialist for about 12 months now and since it has been fitted I always get one tiny drop from the weep hole meaning it is doing its job? and keeping what little coolant gets through running into the bearing?

From my understanding, the weep hole is there to let you know the seal has gone and the bearings will start to go if left much longer, which will eventually seize the pump if left forever. Which is not good for the engine.

As for how much, enough to leave a nice trail on the pump and drip down.

I have posted on the facebook page too, just incase some are seeing double lol

so you get quite afew drops dripping down then? I dont get any dripping down just one solitary blob the size of a small screw head every so often? As you can see I put mine on the router then the buffer and to finsh the dremel to get into the corners. Not best pleased if mine is faulty goods from TVR parts supplier!!. My original had no weep hole but was making noises so bearing was on the way out.

Yeah its more a "tap run on" not much but enough to make me think something is wrong.

Still usable for shorter journeys at the moment.

I'm no expert though that's for sure.

Yes it is naughty, I got mine from an TVR supplier but not Racetech. Can I tell if its aftermarket without taking it off?

It is correct that if ANY fluid is appearing from that hole then the seal is at the end of its life. I got a new pump for the wife's 430 from an MG suppliers last month as its the same as a Bv8. The cost was over £80 cheaper than the so called TVR specialists! They rip people of something chronic in my opinion. The claimed 'original' pumps are highly unlikely as I don't think Unipart produce it any more. Incidently, one of the main causes of seal failure on water pumps is lack of use because they dry out and go hard so burn slightly the next time they run. The moral is use it or lose it!

At that sort of pricing how about fitting and electric pump and doing away with the mechanical item?

Has anyone done this on their TVR? I'm considering it for Samy but haven't reached that point in the rebuild yet.

Very much a matter of choice I know but just how often does a water pump give trouble? My 500 is still on its original at 121k miles which I guess proves that regular use helps. Providing you have anti freeze in and start it once week I see little reason for failure as the anti freeze also acts as a lubricant, even the cheapest which is what I use. Mind you an over tight belt will not help longevity especially as the contact radius is very small at least on pre serp engines.

I think l must have a dodgy pump smile. Ordered a new one a bearmach part. I looked on land rover forums and they all seem to recommend this company.

just find your nearest one or phone one that has the part or ring up Caerphilly
Bearmach with your Range rover part number P38 water pump and get it delivered. I have never fitted one of their products so I have no idea of its longevity?

Used these on a number of occasions for genuine RV8 stuff http://www.turnerengineering.co.uk/acatalog/4.0V8-... failing that I would use an Airtex pump a proper OE quality manufacturer http://www.island-4x4.co.uk/water-pump-1994-airtex... No need to have the piss extracted just because its a Rover V8 IMO

I have cancelled my order with Bearmach and getting the Airtex one, thanks Simon.
