Sorry this is another tyre/wheel size post, I have been looking at tyre combinations for the standard wheels and have come up with this for federal rsr

Front 205 50 zr15 diameter 589 width 210
Rear 205 45 zr16 diameter 589 width 209

Any advice appreciated I have been looking at 17 wheels but would rather keep the standard wheels if I can

Try and keep close to front 205/55/15 rear 225/50/16

Most cars using the standard setup use the above sizes .. Early cars in with a slightly different setup.

205/55/15 dia 607mm

225/50/16 dia 631mm =

The idea is to get front and rear wall heights close has possible and have a 1" difference in diameter front to rear .

rear 235/5016 would work well dia 641mm
245/45/16 dia 627mm

front 225/50/15 606mm
215/55/15 618mm

Federals are a good choice, I have them on my car. Just be careful when buying.....Federal thoughtfully named three totally different tyres 595. You need the 595 RSRs.

Daz has got the advice about sizes spot on - try to stay reasonably close to standard, but don't get totally anal about it. I am on 215/40 17 front and 215/45 17 rear, which gives 603mm diameter front and 625mm rear.

As far as I can see from a quick scan on Ebay, for standard wheels your only choices in Federals are 205 50 15 and 205 50 16, which gives diameters of 586 and 611mm respectively. Frankly, 2/3 of an inch difference really doesn't matter too much.

For me the cheaper price of the Federals over most other road/track tyres wins the argument. I also have some Toyo R888s in 215/45 17 and 235/40 18, which comes up larger than standard (625 and 645mm respectively) and wider too. I struggle to tell the grip difference between the Toyos and the Federals, but I do have to watch speed cameras when on the larger tyres as the speedo reads a little low!

I was going for that combination with 205/50/16 on the back but on the federal website they were only recommended for a rim size up to 7 inches strangely the 205/45/16 were 7.5 inches is it that critical or is it like a best before date

The wheel size table I use says that 7 inch wheels are ok for 195-225mm widths, 7.5 inch wheels are good for 205-235mm widths. What are the standard wheels? I simply cannot remember.....as I have been on 17 inch wheels for about two years now.

I believe they are 7.5 so I think I should be ok
