As the tittle suggests
I changed my shock set up about a month ago, after talking with Joolz of Kits and Classics fame
I decided to get some Protech double adjuster shocks with softer Spring rates,,,,
Joolz then re built the rears with a Poly bump stop
Front Spring rate 350
Rear Spring rate 300...... Possibly a bit to soft?..

I'd decided to try and create more of a lazy feel, more old school and gentle on the joints around town, man hole covers, pot holes etc,
I've got the old style metallastic bushes and standard roll bar set up,
As it's now well and truelly Autum
Did some playing with the damper settings today, country lanes, rain, puddles, town driving, and some faster A roads,,
in down to
Fronts 4bump/5rebound
Rears 5bump/6rebound
It's quite some change in the cars characteristics,,,,,,
Smooth, compliant, quiet?
It's obviously a very soft setting,, no good at high speed but for driving this time of year,,,,,
The steering is now sluggish, forgiving, manholes used to rattle the car,,, these shocks sap them with a really nice feel,
It's like my old ford Capri hehe

With hard shocks my car lost some character,,
I do sometimes enjoy a lazy driver,, Jags come to mind wink
With some decent softer tyres I think my car might actually be safe to drive,, hehe

So I'm running a very compliant quick reacting Spring,
Bump is still active at low settings,,,
Rebound is controlling the cars tendency to jump up off the springs when unloading after a dip,,
When on hard springs and running only one adjust shocks I found it impossible to get a soft ride without inducing bounce because the damper setting was so low,, turn it up a tad,, back to rock hard !

So today I've ran country lanes and all sorts, car totally stable,, a bit soft but so quiet over bumps, steering always very steady,,,, with the front softer it takes more steering input to turn,,,
This is my old man set up,,,,
But it felt so enjoyable to drive, the car gripping the wet roads,
It feels like I've managed to get good control and a very subtle feel of the road,

So far my experience with the Protech's are nothing but good news,, I'm well impressed with the speed of the spring and how quiet it's all become,, I used to imagine engine parts moving as the car went over some hard bit of road,,, shudder shudder,,
It's actually all getting absorbed,,,,
I can whack up the knobs for some hardcore driving or leave them as is and keep below 60mph biggrin
See here's a funny thing,, so I get on A road,, same soft settings,, over 70 mph the car seems to squat and settle, like the down force is now acting on the shocks and taking up some slack ! Car again felt really stable, really modern,, the same lazier steering, easy to drive,
So far I've achieved what I was hoping for and a bit more,,,,
My cars a cool tourer now smile

Yeah, he says he's had success with some Cerbs too,
I'd been thinking to myself,, to get the car more compliant I have to go softer Spring but obviously didn't want to turn it into a boat,,,
Joolz agreed, so that was a good start, I've gone with his recommendation on Spring rates,,
So slow stuff the springs being softer the car glides rather than a load of suspension frequency type issues, my ball joints no longer bounce,
It's just remarkable how much you can change the cars dynamics with good shocks suited to your requirements,, wink
My steering has always been tight and spot on, it still is, yet around town now I can barely feel bumps transmitting up through the column, it's a bit of a joke almost Daz,,,
My cars edgy, it's the nuts,,, but now I've got a Tvr for two worlds ,,, lazy country lanes, I've yet to find out but hopefully whack up the settings and it should be ok for a firm smooth bit of Tarmac wink

This sounds great.
Im just looking into getting a Chimaera , to compliment the Sp6 Cerby i have, and these shocks will be at the top of my shopping list.
Do they do a set for the Cerby.?
If so thats GREAT...
