I tightly clamped some old mole grips around the shaft and hit that,,, soon loosened off thumbup

Actually,so did I.

Make sure that you loosen both UJs so that you can slide the shaft up.

Sometimes it's easier to remove the top UJ and then pull off the lower one and UJ as one.

A suitably profiled chisel in the joint is often better than a screwdriver.

I actually used my BP issued pry bar to spread mine, I assume not everyone else is quite so well endowed in the tool department biggrin
