In the process of cleaning and repainting my chassis and have decided that as we dont have salt on the roads out here to not put any wax on my newly painted chassis. We do, though have a lot of dust and grit, especially at the side of the road.

Even though I think the paint I am using is going to be very tough, for piece of mind I would like to add some more protection to just the outriggers, especially at the front and on top of the plates.

Would a rubberised stone chip paint be good for this on top of the primer + 2 coats Rustoleum? I really want to avoid having a soft, gooey wax in there if I can help it.

I've just had a full body off chassis refurb and the top coat applied was a black rubberized paint. This covered the light grey "paint" coat and allows the garage to see where the top coat has been compromised each time it goes in for a service. They then just touch up the affected area and apply a quick fresh dab of black rubberized paint biggrin

Seemed likely a very simple and effective way to finish off the work they had done and add a further layer of protection thumbup

you may well find the stonechip will frazle up the rustoleum as theyre not really compatible , the stonechip will be high in thinners content and basicly melt whats already there

if youve de rusted it well and painted it nice , id go with wipe it down once a year with a rag and repaint if req , that way small rust blisters will show and can be dealt with rather than being hidden under an inch of goop

That's exactly what I want to do.

I'm just talking about an extra bit of protection between the body and the outriggers for peace of mind.

I have seen those in the various forms and am tempted to make something using galvanized sheeting.

Do you think these protectors take out the need for further protection coatings on the tubes?

Same here, this is my chassis 3 years after being done, a wipe down each year and touch up any chips

I'll be starting a body off in the coming month & I intend to do something similar. There is someone selling pre-made ones on PH. (They are nothing to do with me) If you look on PH under this http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/parts-and-p... I'm sure you'll see it eventually
