I know you chaps have been sorting out the go pro camera's. how have you got round the weather proof case and the mic issue ie no sound on video's because the case is solid. before I take a drill to my weather case and drill holes in the mic area , have you found any problems with water getting in on wet days affecting the camera , was the hole drilling a success.

I have run my GoPro 2 in a skeleton case (water proof case but with the holes already cut out for external mic) in heavy rain on track with no adverse affects. Bearing in mind my GoPro 2 is not worth much now, probably wouldn't risk it with my GoPro 4 though.

This kind of weather, and yes I am driving like a girl.

With my recently acquired GP Hero3+ I use the waterproof case with the Skelton back (open back to let sound in) however generally in the Cerbera I use the surround trim case with the curved mount on the dash.

Drilling a hole is exactly what I did. I prefer the angle from on top of the screen so had to have the camera outside. I wrap some electrical tape around the mic connector to make sure its a tight seal and no problems at all so far.

If you go down this route though start off with the smallest drill bit possible. Once you start drilling the plastic of the case heats up very quickly and its very easy to make the hole too large very quickly. Its easily doable but patience and precision is needed.

It now allows me to have the external mic going in any weather with the following result:

Best of luck if you try it smile

Wow, that's got it all!

Track position, speed, G-Force, even the corner names come up!

Add in your glorious TVR V8 soundtrack and even though it's raining it still makes for a great watch, only the shopping cars overtaking you taints it slightly.

Mind you, I bet you'd still be faster than me laugh

Great movie making Matthew, keep them coming mate thumbup

Cheers Dave, yeah pretty crap video that one, it was very slippery out there.

This is a better one in the dry with the full telemetry. GPS speed is a little laggy as it is using the iPhone's internal GPS. I have a 20hz external GPS sensor to play with this year.

It is all about the conference lift for an amateur like me. smile I did struggle with Combe a bit to be honest a bit to technical for me and there is very little in the way of run off.

Harry's Lap timer running on my smartphone to capture the telemetry data. The internal camera is using the iPhone and the external is a GoPro. You copy the GoPro footage to the phone and overlay the telemetry. It is not the simplest thing to do, I practiced with it on the road for a bit to get the hang of it. It is a ball ache to get a good result but then it is £10 for an app vs £1000 for the equivalent VBox system. GoPro is far better quality than the VBox cameras as well.

There is also an option to use Dashware which is now free (been acquired by GoPro), again using an app on your phone (also free)

http://www.dashware.net

This is an example of Dashware...

if you got rid of the confidence lift at folly you could probably take two seconds off your lap time only saying like evilbiggrin

I have never gone flat out through Folly in my 5.5. I have in the 4.6 but I chickened out in the 5.5.

Are you saying I can one hundred percent go flat out on triple 8s through there?

Can I trust you?

Will you look after my children?

Will you?

Yes, I've hit Avon rise at 140mph. Theres a pretty nasty hump on the inside of folly that you have to loosen off on the steering and straight line Avon rise heading for the traffic lights

Hi My man

I guess that all depends on your exit from camp really, I would guess that you will be a little better on the exit of camp than Mathew, so you will be carrying more speed up the straight. So food for thought.

not really wanting to give my secrets away but to give you an idea as to what I am doing in the Rover Tuscan 4.5 on 888's . best lap is 1.12.3 I am pretty much hard on it from just before apex at camp chasing the throttle as hard as I dare , flat through Folly well into 5th gear there , short shift into 5th before you turn round folly using torque to pull revs up, still flat over Avon rise, once committed to that do not lift off till you are over the top then hard on anchors 50 mts past, turn into first kink going in to quarry, you would aim for traffic lights on the bank outside of quarry and right in front of you, I am a metre and a half to the right protecting the inside but it's bumpy near that early turn in, once you are pointing straight at the tyres on that apex of the kink hard and I mean hard on the brakes again not locking up and turn into Apex of corner looking for the exit. so yes two separate braking points both as hard as you can till you have to turn to the apexes.

In the Chevrolet I am doing exactly the same but with 200 more BHP under me and sequential with slicks big slicks so things are happening much quicker and my vision goes a bit blurred once I hit the bumps at folly flat in fifth short shifted into 6th. Get it all right and that equals a lap record of 1.09:23 You must get the turn in right if you turn in to late it will drag you onto the grass on the outside not a good place to do that. thing is road cars are much softer than a race car so you may have to lift at folly because the car overall will be to soft to handle it. I have not done a trackday for 6 years so will look forward to the griff some day at Combe again.

For all that said, if I were you, I would stick to what you doing and go home with a fat grin on your face not on the back of a recovery truck.

this is from Gaeton Paletou onboard, of the race I got the lap record in. most laps after second one were in the low 1.10's It was the fastest race I have ever been in. this is Gaeton's 4th ever race yes 4th. He graduated the academy and now drives LMP3 for the new Ginetta on loan from Nissan. TVR interest at 5.25 in and properly at 9.04 you can hear on the video when he is on the power and off so gives you a clear idea how to drive combe quickly enjoy the vid I did not seen it for a couple of years some thing to give the grand kids

This link is of race I did the 1.12 in the Rover with 888's

Hey up chaps.

I have been looking at these go pro cameras for my Chimaera and of course there are the cheaper ebay alternatives.

It's an SJ4000 or something, has anyone had any experience with those?
