Hi guys looking to get rid of the old cast manifolds off my S1 and replace them with sports downpipes of some kind. Steel or stainless steel even a old set so I can have some made from the pattern.

Hope someone has something on a shelf lol
Cheers Tony

Hi Tony

Had to have my manifolds replaced in 2014: the original stainless ones had finally rusted through after 24 years. Colin Apps at TVR Services South West fabricated a set for me. Not sure how close you are to Taunton, but worth getting in touch on 01823 662555 as they also have a mail order parts business too.

quoted me £300 to replace the exhaust all the way through on a subaru legacy

I didn't do it in the end but he was certainly knowledgeable and pleasant enough when I spoke to him, and I'd certainly be considering him again if I need something in the future.

Hi Philpott

If you refer to Steve Heath's S bible, you'll see that later S's "tended to use stainless steel" and by implication earlier ones with ordinary (mild?) steel.

As for stainless steel rusting, "a less common form of rusting in stainless steel is after the stainless has been exposed to very high temperatures, often in the 750-1550°F range (400-850°C)" Exhaust manifolds under normal use tend to be at the lower end of the range, but apparently they are susceptible at welded joints due to the metallurgy that I wouldn't even begin to understand; funnily enough, that's where mine went!

Clive F look on Chim forum for his Y piece and manifolds.. Not sure if these are same for the v8s as for Chim.

Someone else will have better details for him.. I'm sure..

The standard V8S and Chimaera manifolds are different. The Chim manifolds will fit but then need the Chim Y piece, which needs some adjustment at the outlet to line up with the rest of the exhaust system.

Clivef is a top bloke and former S owner...now is forced to own a Sagaris (tough)....now does TVR exhausts very well as a side line to his other fabrication business on the isle of White... Check out: https://www.facebook.com/clivefppa/

....he may be more expensive, but it will be good....

I am thinking about new S3 C manifolds, so will be interested in the results....perhaps we can form a group buy... wink

someone mention my namehehe

I can do the v6 or v8 manifolds, but would need a spare set to jig up from, and would aim to improve them where possible to give any power gains that may be available, equal length, correct diameter tubing ect, I can easily take dimensions required from steve j`s s2 for the v6 cologne lump, I know the first question is going to be how much, if anyone has some decent photos of a pair of manifolds not on a car please post them up, and I`ll come up with a ball park figure.

The clearance around the headers is different between the V8S / Chim so you might need to double check your header design against the engine bay as a whole.
