I think it depends on wear etc in the hinges from car to car. I tried the black bracket pictured above and it didnt work for me but the longer strut was fine.
If anyone wants the bracket to try they are quite welcome to it.

Hey is that strut just a direct replacement spaceman? Or did you modify the fixing brackets??

Just want to double check before buy one.

The Chimaera has a ball connector both sides and the AX one appears to be compatible. I assume this is the one that the previous poster bought from what others have posted I see know reason that the wont compress into the space available.

Yep that's the one I bought and it was a straight swap with what was already fitted. Took me a while to realise that there's a little wire clip you have to flip round on the original ones to get them off.

There's a number of alternatives. Or you could search for "550mm 250nm strut" or "550mm 300nm strut"

Do they work on the early cars and is there any pressure on the boot in a closed position ?
If it sat to high on mine it would run against the rear section of the roof .

The one that I bought was listed as 300nm and I was a bit worried about it lifting up the side of the boot when it was closed but it sits exactly the same with the strut disconnected. It will lift the lid up on its own once you've got it a quarter of the way up, it's not even close to lifting on its own off of the latch and it's nice and sturdy when it's all the way up.

I can't comment on the lid touching the roof, it's very close but doesn't touch on mine. The lid is definitely all of the way up, it's not pushing on it enough to be stressing anything but it feels like it has stopped because it won't open any further not because the strut is at its full length, I reckon that it's still got a few mm left in it.

I noticed yesterday on mine the strut side of the boot sitting up slightly when closed so will investigate it later.
That's with the longer sgs strut.
