A^^^^^ great offer Paul.
I was only trying to point out what will happen if the water level drops to low which is when things go wrong Ian,,
Richard having had a porous block was only pointing that issue out too but yes if I was Pete I'd now be crapping myself,

As Pete is a newbie I felt it necessary to make him feel how I did,,,, out of his depth hehe

And finally Pete just keep some water in the expansion bottle for that first journey and you'll be just fine. smile

Thanks very much for that offer, Paul, very kind. I am actually going that way so i'd be grateful if you could message me your number, just in case the worst comes to the worst and I need some advice. It's going to be a late trip as i'm going after work, so i'll be leaving Kidderminster around 7.30 / 8pm. Hopefully all will be well but I will keep monitoring the temperature gauge and of course the expansion tank.

Thanks again, you helpful folk!

Pete

Just a bit more info.

The water pump bearings will eventually fail as with any car. There is a BUT though. The clearance between the engine block and the pump impeller is very small. When the bearing begins to fail the rattling impeller can gouge through the block and if left unattended will wear through to where the distributor sits. This is not what you want happening so any hinut of the pump failing get it changed damn quick. Replacing the entire front of the engine is very expensive.....if you can even find one.
