The thing is these are a form of SUPER car so I'd rather be putting our cars up against other sports cars.
The engine being used in a Landie isn't exactly spinning up quite like it does in our cars so I'd have thought we exibit different wear patterns, and old Landie as I like to call em potters along at steady revs, were always reminding ourselves of the power etc,

A complete guess but I bet these cars fair favourably up against many other sports cars of a similar age and value.
Tough old girls we have here wink

Its the other way around Alun, a big heavy 4x4 Rangie or Disco will work its Rover V8 a lot harder than 1060kg Chimaera will.

The Land Rover has 2 tonns of barn door aerodynamics to push through the air and the drive train alone in such a 4x4 just adds to all the extra work the Rangie or Disco places on it's engine, not to mention all the heavy towing work such cars are very likely to do.

Revs don't kill engines, it's engine load (work) the engine is subjected to that's the killer, as such our Rover V8s get a much much easier time of it.

So I say the Rangie/Disco mileage comparison is an excellent and even pessimistic barometer for Rover V8 engine life, there are still tens of thousands of the things out there so you can easily see what this engine is capable of, and having a much bigger sample is always the key to getting more accurate data.

I'm sure you've answered your own point Dave, we know how long these engines last in the old log pullers but I've not known one of them thrash the engine in quite the same way as we do, I have the odd concern over the fact we often run the engine in such a neutral position, hardly pulling anything, a bit like running an engine at high revs with little load on it,as when it's in neutral, surely a little load is actually good for keeping vibration down,
The RV8's used in our cars are tuned more, well mine is, higher compression etc, more heat in engine bay to deal with, bigger cams = more Swarf

Can we really use the Landie examples as a barometer?

I'm just trying to get a more balanced view of what Tvr really is,,
Such bad press, negativity etc etc, you and me know we have the best car pound for pound on the market Dave smile
I've removed a serious amount of reliably issues from my car with the addition of an aftermarket Ecu and wiring harness,,,,,
Trouble is I'm still paranoid it'll break,,, just years of thinking one way is even now hard to dismiss,

Reading about these great cars clocking up serious milage is just what I need hehe

Anyway I enjoy your input tremendously Dave so carry on old bean thumbup

Hmmm ... I was on my original engine as far as I am aware and mine will be starting from zero again with the new engine as I've just put in the new dash...

No triggers broom here as far as I'm aware...

...unlike The Stranglers who I went to see in Salisbury a couple of months ago. hehe

135k miles here on my 4l - have replaced the cam, but otherwise all going v. strong :-)

122k on my 500 and it is still on the original camshaft. It had a clutch around 60k and the final drive rebuilt around 102k just before my ownership. Nothing else apart from service parts and of course plenty of fuel!!

My 1995 400 is up to 118,000 miles and still on original engine and cam.
