Well I am home! I was actually back with the car by 2pm, but stopped at my parent's place to help out with a couple of things.
I've managed 105 miles in it since mid-day, not bad going I don't think! 60 of which was driving the car back, not quite sure where the other 45 have gone
The drive home included a long crawl through Banbury city centre traffic- with my eyes fixed on the temperature gauge, but it behaved fine- the fans kicked in when they were supposed to and there was no drama. My only minor annoyance (for not picking it up on the test drive) is that the electric mirrors don't appear to work, luckily the drivers side is positioned fine and the passenger side isn't far out at all. In all honesty I hadn't even realised they were electric until I went to adjust one on the way home!
What a drive though, and what a noise, I was grinning like a lunatic the entire journey home! It was also interesting driving it back to my own place in a sleepy rural village, the noise certainly seemed to gather a fair bit of attention

Thanks for that Anthony, I'll have a look tomorrow.Out of interest, is there a list anywhere of essential/useful stuff I should be carrying in the car with me? I've always carried a small selection of spanners/sockets/pliers/insulation tape etc in all my older cars, but just wondered if there was an accepted list of useful-but-hope-I-won't-need stuff...

I don't carry many spares with me because if anything went wrong I wouldn't really know what to do anyway. But I have a spare belt,bulbs,large bottle of water,couple of relays and some fuses.
Three years 16.5k and I've only needed to use a screwdriver when I locked my keys in the boot. As Anthony as mentioned these cars with regular use really are very reliable.

The only time I have come home on the back of an AA truck in 12 years was when I put BP Ultimate Diesel in instead of Super......
My experience of various recovery companies is that the RAC tends to employ experienced mechanics whose main object is to get you going again.
However, they rarely come across a TVR, thanks to the super reliability of our cars. So if you don't know what is wrong, one thing you can do while waiting for them to arrive is to use your smart phone and post up your problem on here. It certainly helped me to diagnose my first 100 amp fuse failure six weeks into ownership, and find out where it is located, all before yer man turned up. He did some checking first, but listened and replaced the fuse (yes, he had a spare - well equipped), jump started the car and I was off.
Another time a wheel came off my trailer on the way to a track day - RAC man actually made me some wheel bolts to get me mobile again.
I will be with the RAC in perpetuity now.

That echoes my experience, i've called them out 5 or 6 times over the last 9 years and they've sorted the problem at the roadside on all but one occasion. The exception being when the alternator packed up on my Starion.
Even then, they got the car running and followed me all the way to a garage, which they had rang in advance and confirmed they could both do the work and had arranged for a courtesy car to be waiting for me on arrival.
Absolute first class service every single time, so im always happy to renew (after a bit of haggling!) with them every year, I wouldnt use anyone else these days.

Cheers, I've now done just over 160 miles since collecting on Friday lunchtime! Weather is supposed to stay nice today then we've got a ton of rain coming tomorrow, so hopefully going to get 'a few' more miles in today before wrapping it up tonight. 
They certainly attract a fair bit of attention don't they!
