Hi guys , after 3 years ownership with an s3, and almost 7 years ownership with my Chimaera, i am getting very tempted to sell.

I have been looking at a few Z4 cars, 2.5 ltr for my son and have been impressed by the build quality and the performance.

So much so that i now find myself scrolling thru the Z4 M Sport ads for a suitable replacement for my Chim.

These are a straight six 3.2 m sport engine with 343 bhp and in my opinion one of the next "classic cars "

There values are starting to climb, but thats not the main reason for me thinking of buying one, its just an added advantage.

Opinions please.

vomit Stands well back and expects plenty of abuse!

They are great cars so go for it if that's what you think you'd prefer. I think you might miss the rarity of the tvr and the sound. BMW still make z4's and tvr are bringing out a new car soon. Hold on and see if that sparks a new interest.
The BMW will probably be quicker and more stable but less dramatic and way less eye catching IMO.

I was thinking the same a few years back,I test drove an M3 convertible it was a fantastic car but after a few miles I came to the conclusion it was a little dull, depends if you want a daily driver or a weekend toy

⬆I have also just driven an M3 and found it dull. I didn't like the SMG box. A manual may have been better?

A Z3 I could understand... If you are going so soft as to get a Z4... then you may as well get an M4 and bring the family along...

Z4M is £500+ road fund licence, not worth it. I think the better Z4 is the 3.0lt with sports pack. Fantastic exhaust note (for a road car)

Wouldn't a good alternative be a Tamora or Griffiths?

A Z4M passed me on Sunday - quite a rare car around here I think - and the style is not to everyone's taste I suppose. The engine though, is something else.

Have you considered an S2000?

Sure the Beamer has great build quality. But you'll be bored with 6 months, and the straight 6 will never sound anything like the Chim. It's one of the worst sounding straight 6's I've heard IMO.

They are a nice car.....but a screaming 4 pot doesnt really appeal. Something with a bit more low down grunt and torque.

Most if not all Chims have modified exhausts so hardly a true comparison. Depends if you want a loud droning noise or a comfortable motorway cruiser.

Schnitzer system sounds very nice to me: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vg5omTxGtgg

Lots of exhaust options for the discerning owner: http://www.zpost.com/forums/showthread.php?t=10781...

The point I was making was that there is no exhaust for the Beamer that will make it sound like a stock Chimaera. The straight 6 2JZ in a Supra however.... cloud9
