Hi all,

Rescued a green V8S from a TVR specialist that are going/went under recently. We've got most of the bits to crack on, but they managed to loose the radiator mounting frame, and one of the upper wishbones (I believe nearside, but would happily buy a pair).

The radiator frame I could probably make (though it's a customer's car, and it's going to cost much more for me to fab one than just to rescue an original) but the upper wishbone really is something I need. Like I say, believe it's nearside but happy to buy both sides to be sure.

Here's the car:

See, it's a real V8S! Take a look at its sorry face, then take a look at the vast stash of mint spare wishbones etc you have in your shed that you're keeping for a rainy day. Now look at yourself in the mirror! Could you be the person to deprive it of the parts it so desperately needs?!

I'd consider switching it all to standard S spec at the front for the guy, if it gets the car on the road again, so if anyone has a full set of four wishbones for the front, I'd be interested.

And before anyone suggests the guy on eBay breaking the white one, been there. Tried. Failed. Tried again. Still failing. Totally baffled. Bit of a nightmare. Don't go there!

Would that work? Isn't the track on the V8S different to the V6?

It is, but it's nothing that can't be got-around. Same hardware, just slightly longer. I can use the spacers I used on my S1 to achieve the same track (my S1 is set to V8S track).

I can't forget Susan, I'm married to her!

Sorry Richard, I don't know of any spare wishbones. Have you tried all the usual suspects? How about David Gerald? Douglas Valley? Have you managed to contact TVRGlen about the white one he's breaking? Or is he away somewhere at the moment?

Have you tried asking on the TVR Stuff & General Gossip forum, or asked the racer/sprint boys if they might have one?

Hope you get sorted soon. If not, perhaps one could be fabricated?

Long shot but does a Chimaera wishbone bear any resemblance?

I'll try Douglas Valley out, hadn't thought of them. Don't really want to go down the line of making one.

Is that from Austec? If so it's been apart atleast 3 years. They had one in bits when they gave Samy the post purchase inspection. Chassis had just come back from the blasters.

Think tvrglen is selling the chassis as a whole.

How about Adrian?

No Stewart, it wasn't Austec or any TVR specialist, just a common or garden breakers yard. I seem to recall thinking it was near an ex-USAF air base. I just can't remember their name. confused

Edit: Aah, you mean is the boxer bitsa now in Kitchski's workshop from Austec?

D.J. Spall of Woodbridge, Suffolk.
They may still have the S1/2/3 wishbones. I don't think they sold on the ebay auction earlier this year.

You may need to change the anti roll bar as well if you go to standard wishbones?

The steering rack won't fit if you put v6 wishbones on will it? I thought the mounting brackets on the chassis were different.

Not sure if this will help but Tvr glen has a white v8s he is breaking , I have had some bits off it , he may be able to help but I'm sure you'll have to pay handsomely for the parts if he has them .....!

Apologies chaps, meant to reply sooner but knew this was going to be a long reply. I'm sweating buckets from hauling half a Hillman Imp down from upstairs, so sat down with a drink ready to reply!

Without going into detail, yes it was from Austec. I don't know the hows, or whys, or why nots, but it's that car. The customer came to us at the beginning of the year asking if we could go get it.

TVRGlen......don't! laugh

Adrian has nothing, sadly.

Thanks Glen, will try them.

Can't see why you would, as the mounting tabs on the wishbones should be set relative to the ones on the chassis, but I'm just guessing there. Can't think why TVR would make more than one type though, but will check it out if it comes to that.

I think I've got an anti-roll bar off an S3, come to think of it.

Again, can't see why not. It's about 10mm (roughly) of additional track either side on a V8S, you've got that much adjustment on the toe adjuster.

Somebody went there frownlaugh

I've tried to buy them from him, and I've never had so much trouble trying to spend money somewhere. I must have got up his nose when I questioned the price rising by £50 after I'd told the customer what the price was. Looking back, I wish I'd just swallowed the £50 myself and tried to forget the minor shafting.

I thought it was more than that, shouldn't be a problem fitting v6 top wishbones on then as you should have enough camber adjustment to get it sensible, you'll just be on the outside end of the slot instead of the inside. As I rememberise it half the additional track was in the wishbone and half in the mounting bracket. smile

How about a pair of (more readily available) V6 wishbones and stretch out to V8 dimensions with a decent method of camber adjustmentscratchchin

The V8 track is wider by 20mm each side, so 40mm in total. I do not know if it was just a wider chassis or chassis and wishbone changes to achieve this increase. Does the parts catalogue give different part numbers for V6 and V8 wishbones?
