Ok, 245 40 17 is 627mm, so almost precisely the same size as the standard 225 50 16.

Well well, thanks Anthony.

So if I go to a 50 it'll be higher geared, lower revs for the same speed, hmmm food for thought, I like the big old tyre look, I need 45' on the front to cope with sudden bumps better, thumbup

215/40 17 at the front, with 245/40 17 rears, gives you the nose down stance of the standard 205/55 15 and 225/50 16 set up, in almost exactly the same overall diameters.

So close that I wouldn't worry, as it's a 1mm diameter difference, and the difference in diameter between new tyres and fully worn tyres is 12mm.
