Walnut dash finish

What is the best finish product to use on a walnut dash.
A couple of years ago I refurbed my dash with walnut, finished with Rustins, this left a fantastic deep polish finish, with the surface being very hard. Over the couple of years that has cracked like crazy.
Started on the Radio panel, I have sanded it back to the walnut, which is OK and not cracked, so what is it best to coat it with now.

Bit concerning this as I re-veneered my dash last year and used the rustins plastic coat (the two pack one). Is this the one you used?

Hopefully I won't have the same issue in a year or so.

I would guess that maybe just a single pack lacquer would be the way to go?
