Hi. Long time lurker, Chimaera 4.0 owner. Have an issue with the horn not working. Having removed the horn button from the centre of the steering wheel, there is only 1 red wire connected. Is this correct or has one come loose? Thanks in advance. Rob

Thanks for the quick reply. I will continue to troubleshoot. Anyone have any suggestions? I was planning to check fuses next?

Make sure the column is earthed properly. The earth wire on mine was attached to one of the two bolts that secure the column to the bulkhead. Having said that my horn played up this week and I found this earth had become a bit hit n miss so made a new earthing point further down
n the colum .

Also worth removing the upper plastic cowl and check the power wire where it runs onto the back of the boss is running and making connection with its metal grove. My connection here had also become a bit hit n miss, possibly through wear but turning the wire round top to bottom has now made a good contact.

My 1997 has 2 fuses and a relay in the system.
Taking the low power side first.
Permanent live via fuse 19 to the coil of relay 4. From there a purple/black wire to the horn push ring in the column. The ring connects to the push which earths via the column.
The high power side of the relay is.
Permanent live via fuse 3. Then Purple/white to the horn which earths to the front body mount bolt.

Depending on whether the your car is an early one with a black grille or later with a 'bar' across the middle will make testing easy or hard.
If an early one with a grille, remove this first. Then behind the indicator lenses and bolted to the body you will find two horns - one each side.
The light purple wires on the passenger side are the positive with black for the negative. Simply disconnect the purple wires and use a voltmeter (or a bulb) with a wire direct to the battery earth, have someone press the horn (live all the time so no need to switch ignition on). If you have 12 volts or the bulb lights then the issue is narrowed to the horn or an earth fault. If you do not have 12 volts or bulb does not light then check the fuse and the relay as said above.
If you have 12 volts, then reconnect the light purple wires - check they are not corroded - then use a wire direct from the battery negative or a metal part of the engine (alternator mounting bolt is good) and attach this to the horn and try it. If it now works then the earth is faulty and probably needs a clean up.
If it does not work then the horn has failed. Make sure both horns have clean connections.
Then if an early car, spend ages refitting the grille in the rubber seal.!!!
