1993 Chimaera Oil Pressure Gauge off scale

The gauge is as far off scale as it can get even without the engine running, as soon as the ignition is switched on over goes the needle. Have checked the connection on sender and its a bit dirty but firm. I did disconnect the green wire from the gauge and it started to behave and then 10 mins later its off the scale again. I am assuming is a short or bad connection somewhere, but where?

either sender has packed up, or there is a short to ground in the sender wire. Check the whole length, may have chaffed on the chassis!

Gauge normally goes full scale when the signal wire is disconnected.
