Well, here we go again, another fine mess, Stanley.

rad up to specialist, goosed, put it in the tank and the end cap to crosspipe has gone, leaking coolant and causing more corrosion.

Up for a recore now, nice tight tube and more of them.... smile

Just been checking the fans, both smooth but one squeaks like a demented mouse on warfarin eek

Anyone pulled a fan motor apart? Can they be lubed?

Mine have little rubber grommets on them, one of them is missing and it sounded a little rough when I spun it by hand so i sprayed some release fluid in the hole. Fan still works and doesn't make a gravelly sound anymore. (Will probably fall apart next time I go out now hehe )

Is that the little red blob on the housing you mean?

I decided that the noise was coming from the rear bearing on the motor so with nothing to lose...... I opened it up.

Pretty clean in here, pulled the brushes and they have plenty left in them, springs ok too

The bearing seemed ok, dropped a VERY small amount of bearing lube on it and wiped excess, checked the case too and found this rubber in the housing,,,,

Might be the source of the squeak, put it back together and , whadya know, squeak is gone !
bench tested it too and seems good with plenty of power.

Another job off the list............ smile

Been a couple days since I have had chance to get back in workshop so went back in late saffy, now decided whilst everything is out of the front of the car the hoses ought to be checked and/or replaced.

Swan neck has rusted itself to the rubber hoses, have to take everything off from the water pump, south now frown

Also found a loose connector going back into the loom on the near side, four wires and multiplug , siren appears to be connected here but not to this plug,.any thoughts?

Also have pipe coming out of the offside wing level with the front to back position of the radiator, small bore 8mm probably, is this an exit for something or an intake ?

Will post pic or two when i get back to main computer, can't do it from this effin tablet!

Try forcing a screw driver up the inside of the water hose, they've probably been on there 20 years. Mine were a pig to get off too but a load of lube sprayed up there with a screwdriver forced about broke the seal. Plugs are probably for the aircon and that small pipe I think is for the carbon canister.

Edit: The plugs might just be surplus ones if there the white ones near to the alarm, don't think mine ever plugged into anything, although it's ages since I binned my aircon.

Get yourself a pair of these. Worth every penny. And they pass muster for dental hygiene too.

Gets proper minging down there doesn't it hehe Think that plug is just a spare, there's a few of them about, I think from some of it being a modded range rover loom. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong.

Those mounting holes are just that, holes in the fiberglass, the rust is from the radiator. Buy some satin black rust oleum multi purpose paint and do all of the engine bay, sorts it right out.

Stick your hand around the back of the washer bottle and you'll find the carbon canister. The bottom pipe through the wing goes back to the fuel tank, one coming out the top should go through the top of the wing and into the plenum. That long hanging one is half an inch long and lower on mine, so yours may be different. Do a search on it and decide whether you're better binning it all or keeping it, depends what your plans are with the car...

Looks like the connector has not been "connected" into anything for a long time, maybe never.. so will leave it alone smile

The top pipe, front of wing in pic, that hangs out into space goes back to the carbon canister ... there is another pipe that seems to go from the can up the wing and then out to the plenum .
There is a lower pipe across the bottom of the bay under the rad too, I assume that runs back to the tank.

Its the top pipe that concerns me, where should that connect too? if anywhere? Is it just a "breather"?

That top pipe on my car doesn't connect to anything inside the engine bay. It may be a 'breather' as you suggest.

Just had a look at mine, thought that it was lower on the wing but it's in exactly the same place but been cut short, about half an inch long and looks a lot neater for it I think.

Decided I really ought to bite the bullet and get all the hoses of from the heater pipe, water pump etc and especially to look at the metal "S" pipe... here they are in all their, hmmm glory, well not really glory, more like knackered. I could maybe renovate the metal pipe but wouldn't it be nice in shiny stainless!
Had to cut the hoses off in the end, might just have been on 17 years at that!

So I now need hoses and some good clips to do it right and do it once.

Racetech have silicone hose in BLACK !! (don't want dago blue, orange pink whatever) up as a set at £142 plus the dreaded. Ebygum have some on at £120 inc VaT.. alternatively I could just get three hoses I need, ..... the top hose/ stat hose etc look to have been replaced already.

Anyone got recommendations for hoses and clips?

Something has arrived ready to install bounce courtesy of M.R.S. at Preston (recommended by Heath at Ex-works) dropped it Monday, picked it up today, Thursday, complete strip and recore plus they even took out the broken stub of the last bolt standing.

If you're throwing money at it you might as well buy some mikalor clips... mmmmm shiny hehe

Rad looks good thumbup

Sure that if you spent an hour on ebay you could find most of the pipes you need a lot cheaper than bulk buying from specialists, especially as you just want black.

Yes wondered about that, Mikalor were always the clip of choice when replacing the old British st clips that they used to put on stuff like Triumphs. Hmm, TVR, British and ,,,errrm ... careful smile

or maybe these? "Silicon" hose clips, oh, really?

If your going for black hoses then Powers Performance do a nice set. Bit expensive but I'm hoping they'll be on the car a very long time.
When tidying up my engine bay I opted for the stainless pipe, same reason as above, should last years and it looks far better than the metal one.
Here's a pic for some inspiration. wink
