Thanks QBee. I've not removed the carbon can yet so was just wondering how it compares in size to the servo that I want to replace it with.
The carbon canister is a round unit and a little smaller in diameter than the servo from Mgbhive (link above). The bracket that comes in the servo kit is quite big so you may want to make your own if you want to site it in a tight spot. You can position it under the bonnet on the driver's side near the alternator. Best to wrap the exhaust and the servo with some heat mat as it will be above the manifold.

Thanks N7GTX, I was hoping to completely'lose' the servo in the wing. I believe the MGB servo is 1.9:1 whereas a Mini servo I have seen mentioned is 1.5:1 and therefore, I imagine, smaller.

I fitted the mini one under the bonnet next to the alternator, it is slightly smaller. There is a thread on here with pics , there is no problem with heat transfer as far as I can tell

Hi, can't remember which connection is the fuel return to tank?
Is it to the offside rear of the tank or at the neck connection.
I've removed the canister so presumably whichever one of the two is the vent goes via the rollover valve and to atmosphere? I think Steve D commented that this pipe needs to go vertical first before returning to the boot base to exit?

I removed mine the weekend. Can gone, long pipe that went to rear gone, pipe from can into engine bay and onto plenum gone. I assume there is one pipe coming ou tof the gas tank. That just vents somewhere to atmo does it?

Sounds like the pipe you have left is the one from the filler neck to the rollover valve beside it and then a pipe going onward from there? Steve D recommends that this needs to go upwards and then down before exiting to atmos through boot floor or wheel arch. Might be worth fitting a filter on the end to stop rubbish being vacuumed into the tank.

yup - spot on - fit a one way air valve to the end under the car. demon tweaks etc sell them

Sorry NO.
The pipe needs to be able to vent both ways.
It must let air out on a hot day as the air in the tank expands.
It must let air in as fuel is consumed.

I don't believe a filter is needed as the pipe will be vertical for about 2 feet and the air movement will not be strong enough to lift dust particles that distance.

Here my late 450
The steering fluid bottle bracket connects via the left bolt.
May be of some help.

Thanks Steve, I wasn't advocating a one way valve as it does need to go both ways. I suppose a filter that breathes both ways does run the risk of blockage where an open pipe won't, I'll leave it off.

I want to do both of these mods, get rid of the canister (fully decatted here) and put the servo in the vacated spot.

I read that someone put a 1.5:1 pump and said that it preferable to the 1.9:1, as it leaves a little more feel in finding the biting point. Has anyone else tried that one instead?

Regarding the canister, if I understood correctly, we basically ditch everything forward of the rear screen (except the main fuel line of course), fold the hose that is going forwards up and then down again through the whole height of the boot, and then let the hose pop out of a new hole, say behind the diff, leaving about an inch of hose poking downward. Have I got that right?

I used the 1.5 to 1 as fitted to minis as it allows more feel,is smaller than the 1.9 as I fitted mine next to the alternator attached to the inner wing which gives plenty of height above the manifold to keep it out of the direct heat, easy enough to fit heat shield in this area if you fancy

Do you have a link to that 1.5:1 remote servo? Can't find anyone selling one.

Thanks thats great.

By 'other parts' do you mean the valve that goes on the plenum or are there some other bits I need too?
