I now have the 3.9 EFI engine in my car, but would like to upgrade to a 5 litre one day.

A vey low mileage chim/griff engine would be great but also a rebuild one when the price is ok.

Is it just having luck and keep looking at the adverts "parts" here on PH, or are there other places to look?

The well known TVR dismantlers (but won't be cheap)?

I know ebay, but these engines are also often used in kitcars etc... and on ebay you find maybe 2-3 v8 engines and mostly they are 4 litres.

So, maybe (besides the griff and chim area overhere) there is another forum or website where 4.6/5.0 litre engines are offered?

I do not know why it should be so expensive. If you take a look www.v8tuner.co.uk you can also buy 4.8/4.9/5.0 litre short and long engines for interesting prices.

Isn't the 5l engine the same bore as a 4l? In which case is it possible to change the internals (ie larger throw crank) and stroke the engine up to 5l? Probably requires new pistons and heads as well though.... just a thought.

I think it is the same as the 4.6, not the 4.0. And if you are mechanically minded it is perfectly possible to build a 5 litre. 5.2, 5.3 5.4 or 5.5 to your own specification. All a matter of money and time. My TVR guy races, and it's one of the many possible routes he is considering. For normal mortals its generally cheaper to buy a car already converted to the engine you want, so long as you are willing to compromise on all the other things done to the car (dampers, roll cage, brakes, clutch servo, seats, to name but a few on my mods).
And it is possible to build a complete TVR Chimaera from spare parts.....but would you?

Tis a very nice car. I like how the actual engine looks minute whilst the exhaust, blower and plumbing look to take up the entire engine bay.

How much does the super charger kit cost alone ?
Im thinking about droping the CR and going low boost ..

450hp target .

Dont fancy removing the engine , just want to send the heads off to be re worked .

Best bet is to drop the sump and fit a set of forged lower compression pistons.

Are the pistons forged on engineer 1949s car ?

Would mean the engine could be out of balance ?

You just need to add a drop of mastic to the underside of the pistons on the inside face - ie that nearest the plenum. A pea size blob is usual. Must be perfectly sphirical though.

If you are only going to run low boost Daz, your engine may well be fine as is.

The problem is, low boost soon turns into high boost.
