Advice re. CD player please. My CD stacker has just stopped playing. It's the original Pioneer radio/cassette/CD unit and I want to keep it and not install one of those fancy "disco" units (no disrespect). I've asked a local "auto sounds" bloke and he reckons the CD heads need re-calibrating which entails sending it away and paying a lot of money ??
My question is: are the CD changers interchangable/ compatible with each other ??
If they are has anyone got one surplus to requirement .... errmm cos they've installed a "disco" unit biggrin

If it's the same (1990's) style one I have, there are a few of these around for more-or-less nothing on Ebay. Is this the one?

I think the OP means the player in the boot. A few of them are available on ebay and elsewhere and as long as the lead connection is the same, there's a good chance it'll work. Most of the Pioneer CDX-P--- series are compatible:

My CDX-P650 was replaced with a CDX-P25 and worked fine, using the same lead.

Here are all the manuals online if that will help:

Yes, I knew I wouldn't explain clearly. The cassette and radio are playing fine, it's just the CD exchanger that isn't playing. Oddly enough, it sometimes plays a few bits of a CD and then stops.
The unit is a Pioneer KEH P4500R - see below. If there's one on ebay is it just a case of unplug and plug "new" one in ??

Yes straight swap, just unplug old unit and plugin the replacement

What are the chances of swapping it with a unit that can read MP3-cd's? Is the MP3 reading done by the changer or the piece in the dash - anyone know?
