Further to my previous message "another day another cam" regarding a loud tapping noise, on removing the near side rocker I found that a tappet pad had a piece chipped off.
Today I removed the inlet manifold. The first thing was that all the bolts except for the rear oil seal plate were hand tight. The rear bolt unfortunately snapped off.
Then I saw that one of the 3rd cylinder push rods was bent, and as the photo shows had rubbed against something.
Any ideas please!
Thanks for the help previously

These will give you an idea of wear and problems on camshafts/followers etc. Scroll down in the second link for pics of wear patterns and what to look for on the cam lobes.

Try drilling the sheared off bolt - its quite short - then use an Easy Out to try and remove it. If you have some form of heat like a plumber's gas blow torch, use this to warm up the block while turning the Easy Out.

Just £3.99 for a set.

Seeing as you're in this situation, I'd look at overhauling the valvetrain. You need to find out why one of the rods has bent. Have you pulled out the lifter of the corresponding bent push rod and looked into the bore? Will the lifter pull out?

If you're going to replace the rods, I'd invest in a set of adjustable items. Will make setting the preload easier, seeing as you're doing the cam as well.

I would expect the chipped rocker occurred first and that caused the pushrod to bend as it would be pushing on a sloping surface
