Have a look at the dab+ compatible units, supposed to be more reliable signal wise.
I'd read that DAB+ is just a completely separate signal. Some channels are only on DAB+ but it hasn't been rolled out that much in the UK.What does sound worth having is DAB/FM switching, which switches between the two automatically if the DAB signal is lost, thereby maintaining reception.
Also read that the DAB signal is only equivalent to about 48kbps. Some radios can use clever technoogy to artificially increase this to give a better sound.
I was thinking about running an aerial through to the boot and running it around the boot aperture. Has the additional advantage of being away from the engine and any ignition noise.
Have to say I think DAB is utter se. A clear case of something being invented that shouldn't. Unless anyone can educate me?...
What was wrong with FM?
We have two DAB radios at home (in a postcode that according to the DAB police is serviced) and they're both terrible, no longer used. The whole fact that you have to check your postcode to see it it's SUPPOSED to work there makes a nonsense of the fact that you have one in a moving object...
My wife's car has one and it defaults to DAB even when you select FM, but then loses the DAB signal. I can't see how the auto switching (between FM and DAB) will work as there is a delay on DAB, unless it's going to buffer it all... which is making it every more complex just to cover the initial flaws, bit like all the soot catching devices on a diesel...

I've just fitted a pioneer dab plus to my daily, changed the body mounted aerial to one of these.
May work in the Tvr boot as it's amplified, requires a 12 volt supply.
Signal has been faultless so far in my area, our other factory fitted Nissan dab radio drops out regularly.

While most of my TVR's have been fine with FM, including my Griff, I just couldn't get the Cerb interference free. So I fitted a DAB unit about 4 years ago.
Tried all sorts of aerials and eventually found the Kinetic DRA-6003 (stubby version of DRA-6001). I placed it inside one of the C pillars as I didn't want to drill a hole in the bodywork. I’ve been very happy with the result since, especially as I live in an area with poor DAB signal strength.
So, in my experience, a good quality aerial is the key to successful DAB reception.

I agree, another interfering change that will be forced on us, fully, eventually. What was wrong with FM?

Interestingly (or perhaps not, you decide...) we have a DAB radio in the house which constantly struggles to maintain reception, but the one in my everyday car (which travels around 40,000 miles a year) rarely, if ever, drops out. There are two spots (just south of M6 J15) is one, where it will drop out for about 10 - 15 seconds, but other than that I have had DAB reception very clearly wherever I go.What was wrong with FM?

Having said that, I can't really see a benefit over FM, because with a digital signal it will drop out whereas with FM it will just go a little fuzzy for a while.
