I'm sure this one has previously been done to death - but just for the record, here goes...

Which exhaust mod creates the best/most noise? Is it;

1) Retain cats but sleeve the silencer box, or...
2) Stock exhaust with pre-cats removed. (Main cat retained)

Mine has the former and a mate is looking to buy a Chimaera with the latter. How will they compare?
Spreading the word I see PB! Hope all is well pal.

Turbos - they give with one hand, and take with the other.
Stock exhaust : removing precats made no noticeable difference, and I could never tell whether the engine bay ran cooler either, but fitting a decatted Clive F Y piece has got me the perfect sound I reckon. Plus clever ecu for added pops and bangs smile
Removing the Pre-cats for me was not about noise, the manifolds needing welding and the kittens were screwed! I doubt gasses were flowing very well either. Agree not noticed much reduction in temp. I was going the clive or ACT non cat Y piece before thinking turbo and I reckon that combo should be good sound wise....but I want more power so that option is out....I've already made my call on turbo and hate indecisiveness so I've got to live with it.....and maybe add a large speaker playing pre turbo V8 sounds hehe

The jury's out a bit as far as I'm concerned with sleeving....as I say some are a nice deep rumble, but others sound like a tractor at idle.

Slightly unconventional temporary exhaust and silencer whilst waiting for ACT cherry bomb!
But Project Chimaera fired up first time post the body going back on which feels good.
Sounded interesting with no pre cats and jerry rigged exhaust!

Can someone designed me a quieter silencer without compromising on performance.

Mine is a standard system, ACT Y piece and all cats out . It is probably noisier as it is larger capacity but it really gets on my nerves for long distances. Just saying!

I have a big-time hankering for one of Clive F's equal length manifolds ... he's done a 'less expensive' version of the original which doesn't look as much like a sackful of snakes shagging but still sounds bloody awesome.

I wish there was a better video than this...

I recall clivef spending time at my house after he`d installed those pipes on his 500 Griff, I followed him in my S2 from Cardiff to Angelsey, the sound was incredible, especially in the Conwy tunnels. At tickover and normal cruising the sound was standard TVR V8, press the loud pedal and it was a cross between a meaty V8 and a Ferrari, sounded like all hell was let loose. I can vouch for clives work, he modified my S2 exhaust, very nice job and we took the pre cats out of my Chim and also fitted a shiny Y piece.

Peter, I'm actually considering these as they can give a 20-30hp increase on our big motors. Ive opted for the 5.4 dominator with same cam as you have. With the triple on top and this snakepit exhaust youll be well over 400! NA Rover over 400 smile

I'm just considering it as you can't use a turbo with it and they look and sound gorgeous! biggrin

you can weld in perforated cones where the precats used to sit, to break down soundwaves before the Y

How about modifying the tailpipes so you can fit track day silencers that don't protrude further than standard for the long journeys and a pair of straight through shorties for the not long journeys smile

Shouldn't be too difficult to make it a quick swap on the lift..

Bit of a faff but it might be ok.....
