In case this helps anyone in the future wanting to fit a McLeod Single plate to the original flywheel you will need the flywheel redrilling for the new cover plate (Mass Racing did mine), 10mm machining off the back of the bearing carrier as the fingers sit 10mm higher than standard and 15mm length taken off the slave rod.

I also had my flywheel refaced but I guess that depends on the condition of your own.

Should be back in the road tomorrow and I am pleased to report the clutch weight is not as heavy as I was fearing!

I used the McLeod aluminium flywheel so no machining required of the flywheel or the release carrier .

You need to take the 10mm from top of the carrier.

It's not been set up properly. I had this happen to me when I fitted a twin plate, I was gutted. Once I'd set it up properly it was fantastic.

Its a single plate so just a simple clutch frown

I'm going to give Real Steel a call in the morning and see if they have a twin plate and billet flywheel available as I really CBA to pull the gearbox again. I will be pushing the power limits of a single plate anyways. A bit annoying but oh well

Answered by others, machining of the flywheel and the carrier has to be correct.

No machining necessary with the aluminium flywheel. You can use the standard thrust release carrier.

The single plate cover and the twin plate cover are exactly the same heights.

Has yours got multiple fingers or just 3 levers? When I bought mine direct from Mcleod they specced it with the levers. I've no idea why though. It was a 10.5" clutch.

Expensive, very definately but you'll be very happy with it.

Was it because of excess power or because the release bearing was still pressing on the release springs ?

Pretty sure it was due to the surface finish from the flywheel refacing which is annoying. We checked that the bearing carrier had clearance on fitting and it was fine.

Are you suggesting the flywheel was so polished the clutch couldn't grip it? I doubt it was that. You either had to much Tq or incorrect adjustment at a guess.

That clutch could handle 385 bhp and 460 torques without any problems.

if you read mcloeds fitting instructions they recommend driving gently for 4 to 500 miles stopping and starting so many clutch uses before using full power or the clutch will slip due to not being bedded.

It was my old part worn clutch so was performing perfectly.

No it wasn't perfectly smooth (had texture) which was the problem. Machine shop was adamant it would be ok, I wasn't sure and it didn't pay off frown
