Pushed down on my rear bumper in the garage to help my creaky knees as I got off the floor on the weekend and the thing fell off !
the steel mountings have rotted out.
mine is the ribbed finish bumper which I've never really liked.
Has anyone out there got a smooth one they don't need and wan't to swap for money ?
Car is an 84 FHC350

Hi burnettmotor. Yes I've got a new Wedge rear bumper, but pretty sure it's a 'ribbed' one. It's advertised elsewere but will upload a pic' this evening. J C.

The bracket has probably been attacked by the tin worm and they are repairable. Couple of bits of metal is all.

laugh...Sorry to laugh but it just reminds me of a day at the park meet when my friend drove another friends 390SE to see what he was saying about the brakes being poo...As he got out he used the side sill as a support but that too fell off..Although it made a loud cracking noise before it did...hehe

thanks for the sympathy people
i can fix the one I have without too much hassle but it would still be a bit ribby.
i haven't used the car for a couple of years due to life getting in the way and now my list of things to fix is looking like I should move into the garage.
trouble is as I spend all day fixing motorcycles the enthusiasm to spend my free time fixing my old car is hard to find

My rear bumper on the 350i half fell off on the motorway doing about 70! Luckily the bit that scraped along the ground was underneath so I removed it fully and could refit in without any paint jobs.

I had to make up a couple of mounting brackets and glassed them onto the bumper before refitting, but made them longer to eliminate the silly heavy washers.

thanks for looking john but as you said yours is ribby like mine - guess it's tigging up some new brackets in stainless and a big pile of nasty glass fiber work for me

My off side piece came a drift in the front , swung out 90 dogs and slid along till I could get stopped. Popes the fastener back up in the hole and drove home. Bigger washers and good to go with a bit of rash where the tire rubbed on it for a bit.

As far as I'm aware, the ribbed bumper on the FHC only fits the FHC because the side sections are longer.

The smooth bumper from a later convertible won't fit - the side sections aren't long enough. I know this because I've got a smooth rear bumper that I want to fit to my FHC and the only way it's going to it to cut it and insert about an extra 100mm or so on each side.

I'm not sure if a ribbed bumper from a convertible would fit either, but there's a couple of different types anyway.

Thanks for the info Peter. So the ribbed bumper I've got fits what? Didn't realise there were different fits. Anyway is it of any use to anyone on the forum? "She" wants it out of her potting shed! J C.

Hello John........TVR only made about 2500 Wedges - but I reckon they each had a different bumper.

It looks like yours came off a pre 1984/5 Tasmin with the Capri/Rover SD1 rear lights. Definitely not a FHC though.....have a look at the rear bumper on this and compare it to yours:

As you can see.....the side sections on the FHC bumper are longer

Hi

Yes the FHC rear bumper is longer than a DH rear bumper.

Found this a while ago.......it looks like someone's fitted a later smooth bumper from a convertible - as you can see it doesn't quite fit.

I guess that repairing the existing FHC bumper is the least troublesome option.
