Sorry to read that your car has turned out to be hiding many of the common issues frown I had to have the body off mine about 6 months ago so know exactly what you're going through.

If the overall price as you mention turns out to be correct then after all the work is done you should at least have good value in the car. After having my work done my insurers increased the agreed valuation which was not far off my outlay that I incurred,so in theory it's just moving money from the bank into an investment on 4 wheels.( That was how I looked at it anyway) biggrin

It doesn't sound as though it's dampened your TVR experience and when the work is complete I hope you get many enjoyable years as I have.

I remember meeting a guy new to the TVR fold that bought what he thought was a good bargain only to find out it was rotten with many faults. He really didn't have much good to say about the whole experience, but In my view bargains are that for a reason and I really don't think he did his homework type

Good luck with everything.... Jas
I can only echo what Jas has mentioned, these Chimaera's are 20 years old plus, so continued mechanical maintenance is essential and evidence of this is essential that a competent person has carried it out. I have only heard good reports from NG and the companies work on TVR's especially within the TVRCC forums.

Thank you Jas, I like to believe that I went in with my eyes open- just a little too optimistic and thinking I was Del Boy and I'd be able to keep a rotter on the road for pittance rolleyes at the end of the day- YGWYPF, as I've learnt! At least having had all the work done and getting stuck in myself quite often means that I've left my mark on the car, she's definitely mine now! thumbup

Speaking of agreed valuation.. I must remember to change mine as it's still set at the not-so-princely sum I bought the car for.. Which would hit me hard if it ever came to it readiteek

OP, you've made the correct decision and you will benefit from the work you are having done for the entirety of your ownership. Should you ever come to sell the work and associated receipts will attract people as these cars are bought on condition and yours will be excellent where it really counts thumbup

Another update- dropped into Neil Garners today to drop off the Gaz Gold Pro's that Alun (ClassicChimaera) very kindly set me up with. The new outriggers and suspension arms are on!

Perfectionists relax, the new bits will be getting a nice coat of black to suit the rest of the chassis. (Yes my chassis is going to be painted black, not white or blue or pink- shock horror!!!)

Whilst there I spotted my twin brother- another '93 (K reg) Chim 400 in the same Starmist green. Apparently it's been sat for a long time and is a restoration project that I'll be watching with interest scratchchin

NGs are waiting on parts to trial fit the 325mm brake upgrade against a 16" wheel, I've sorted out a source for the ones I want (very pretty they are too) so once we know they'll fit (hopefully) I'll be going ahead on that too. Inching ever closer to having a rather respectable Tiv on my hands! biggrin

Alun- I owe you a pint sir, cheers you've been brilliant! beer

Nice to see one being saved and enjoyed smile

Curious about the brakes you intend to use? ST225? Aren't they 320mm... and big calipers!

Thank you! The brakes are the brainchild of Ricardo down at NG's, he reckons he's got carriers and slim calipers that'll make it work- trial fitting a 325mm disc with a 308mm contingency! smile

Hi Dave - check out how mine is doing too whilst you're there! It's been a bit quiet recently on the update front, but I guess they're getting busy now biggrin

It feels like ages since I dropped it off back in mid-Dec!

What was it yours was in for again Paul? I remember you mentioning you were at NGs and I did have a nosey for it last time I was there but didn't spot it..

.. But then, I was quite badly distracted by the immaculate Griff 500 and the AJP Cerbie... lick

ETA: chassis! I should've remembered the irony as I joked on your thread that it made me paranoid about my outriggers..

Yes full chassis refurb, I went for the less expensive 'fit around other work' option, so timeframe was always expected to be quite long. Last I heard the chassis should have been back from shotblasting a couple of weeks ago.

As you say, they're great guys at NG, so you know the car's in good hands!

I'd completely forgot that yours was at NG too Paul! I bet you must be itching to get that back on the road biggrin

I'll keep any eye out for it on Thursday, is it still likely to be the only TVR in there with gaffer tape on the rear window? wink

Yup! I have actually got it booked in with Dave the Trimmer to have the roof sorted at the beginning of May, but need NG to have finished with it by then laugh

Me & Mike got to see your car this morning Paul, and they are making decent progress- still plenty to do though!

Your 'new' chassis looks a work of art, very jealous! biggrin
